Florida Senator Bill Nelson toured the Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) on May 16, 2011. Led by PSFC Principal Research Scientist Martin Greenwald, Senator Nelson viewed the Alcator C-Mod tokamak, which is currently in a maintenance period. A member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Senator Nelson was knowledgeable about some plasma research, and open to learning about fusion's potential as a future source of clean energy. The Senator was accompanied by members of his staff, and MIT alumnus Reiner Beeuwkes '67, who facilitated the tour.
