March 2007
Dr. Robert Nachtrieb visited PSFC on February 1, 2007. He kindly agreed to come to his alma-mater and give a talk at the PSFC Student Alumni Club.
Robert graduated from PSFC in 2000 and joined Lutron Electronics, where he is currently an employee. His talk “Adventures of a Plasma Physicist in Industry” was primarily focused on the tasks and challenges that a scientist faces every day at the commercial company. He also explained the scientific and technological aspects of what Lutron does.
Robert outlined the great opportunities for students from PSFC that are present at Lutron. “In all these years we have not had a layoff, which means that we are chronically understaffed and there are plenty of opportunities for you” – says Robert. According to him the working environment there is very much similar to what PSFC students are used to. Rob shared his personal working experience with students. He put emphasis on the skills the he had developed at PSFC and that helped him to excel at a job vs. the skills he had not thought were important and that he had to develop while working for a commercial company.
Overall it was a very interested talk, which excited a lot of questions and discussion from the audience. On behalf of the PSFC Student Alumni Club we would like to thank Dr. Nachtrieb once again for coming.
More is coming soon ...
