Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights March 3, 1994 The vacuum bakeout of the inner divertor nose tiles went well and installation of the tiles onto the modules has begun. Two out of twenty of these modules have been installed and several more are in various stages of assembly. Eighteen out of twenty upper ceiling modules and all twenty floor modules have now been installed. Re-installation of in-vessel instrumentation continues. Thermocouple wires are now being run back to their feedthroughs with repairs made as needed. Periscope brackets have been re-installed, and gas puff tubes continue to be spot welded into place. TORVAC is again operational and the pumping station is pumped down up to the gate valves. The sealing surface of the new A-port flange has been polished and a rough clean-up performed. The flange is now ready for installation of the stainless steel cowl, which allows the cryostat to be sealed around the flange. Components needed to install the reflectometer horns and waveguides onto A-port are now being cleaned and readied for a test fit-up. The cryostat pressure test has now been performed. Two leaks were discovered and sealed. The cryostat will now be purged continuously for approximately 24 hours in preparation for Hi-Pot and ringing tests of the magnet coils. Wiring of LN2/GN2 control valves and transducers continues. Tests of heaters in the lower third of the machine have been performed, and the heater control system is now back in operation. The remaining heater and thermocouple connections will be added when the igloo is back in position. The boron carbide coated antenna components which were received last week have now been vacuum baked. The voltage testing of the feedthroughs and bellows for the D-port ICRF antenna has been completed. Installation of the antenna protection limiters has begun; half of the "full" limiter, located between A and B ports, has been installed. Dr. Garry McCracken attended the ITER divertor workshop in Garching last week, where he presented C-MOD experimental results from the 1993 campaign, and discussed plans for future work.
