Alcator Weekly Highlights April 21, 1994 Preparations for Phase II Operation are proceeding well. A high temperature bake was successfully carried out over the Patriot's Day weekend. Base pressure following the bakeout was good (low 10^-8 Torr range with the walls at 35C). A full leak check was carried out and no new leaks appeared. Discharge cleaning (ECDC) began on Wednesday, April 20. Six hours of ECDC in H2 have been carried out so far; the ECDC program will be continued, consistent with other planned activities, throughout the week. Cooldown of the structure to LN2 temperature also began on Wednesday. The full cooldown process takes several days. The access and interlock systems in the cell and power room are being checked out. Installation and checkout of diagnostics is continuing. The Moly monitor has been installed at F-port. Modifications to the diagnostic stand at F-port to support the second neutral particle analyzer system (PCX) are complete. Preliminary alignment of the YAG Thomson scattering system using the in-vessel alignment targets has been done; the targets were successfully inserted and retracted. The position-sensitive detectors which monitor the YAG beam location were also tested successfully.
