Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights July 17, 1995 Scheduled maintenance and upgrade activities are proceeding on Alcator C-MOD. Planned machine inspection is now essentially complete. All of the TF coax bolts have been checked and torqued to specified torque. The high strength bolts at the first and last turn were also torqued to spec. All OH and EF upper connections were checked for torque, frayed cables, loose LN2 lines, insulation, etc. The OH-1 and OH-2U felt-metal connections were examined with the borescope. These all looked good. The OH-1 and OH-2U thermocouple and voltage sensing leads were tested and checked out ok. All Cryo system inspections are complete. We found no problems with TF cooling except that arms which had been observed to cool more slowly were found to have longer feedlines. These feedlines have been shortened and are now closer to the feed manifold. Both E- and F-port inner/secondary seals have been inspected and the extensions installed. Leak checking of the interseal space has been completed. The upgrade of the EF2 supplies is well underway. The plan is to move TMX modules from the present EF4 to increase the current capability on EF2, and use supplies from Alcator C, presently at LLNL, to drive the EF4 coil. Rewiring of TMX supplies is complete. Control circuitry changes are also complete. Changes to the PARAGON control program are in progress. The new EF4 power supplies from LLNL are now packaged for shipment. We will be sending two engineers to LLNL for inspections and to monitor loading procedures. Fabrication of the power room DC bus to connect the new EF4 supplies is underway. F-port outer divertor module has been removed for checkout/repair of divertor probes. All halo current monitoring shunts are now out of the machine. These are being replaced with new halo rogowski coils at each of the outer divertor modules. The floor mounting plates will be machined to accommodate these coils. One such plate has been modified, and a test fitup performed to verify the procedure. The G10 insulation plate covering TF bus at A-port has been improved and re-installed. A-port diagnostic stand extension for the edge Thomson scattering has been completed and is ready for installation. Roger Richards of ORNL was at M.I.T. working on his ion-scattering diagnostic. Optical benches have been installed in the cell and diagnostics lab for this experiment.
