Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights August 21, 1995 The scheduled upgrade and maintenance interval on Alcator C-MOD continued last week. Good progress was made toward readying the machine for the next operating period. All of the inner wall tile modules have now been re-installed in the machine. The new upper gusset protection tiles were received from the vendor, and final machining of these has been completed; the gusset tiles are now being cleaned and readied for installation. All of the igloo blocks have now been reinstalled around the machine. All vessel heaters and thermocouples have been reconnected and are undergoing checkout. Testing of the pre-prototype cryopump module is proceeding. Initial indications are that the heat load and boil-off rate is within the predicted range. Work on the "new" (former Alcator C) EF4 supplies is proceeding well. All of the new control boards are done and undergoing tests. Wiring of the control cabinet is proceeding, including addition of CAMAC equipment. A PLC/PC station has been set up and control logic development begun. Wiring of 13.8 power to the new transformer has begun and the sharing resistors for the AC bus have been installed. Five spectrometers have now been reinstalled in the Thomson scattering diagnostic, following calibration. Four of the spectrometers had been in place during the previous operating campaign; one new instrument has been added. A sixth spectrometer is presently being assembled.
