Alcator C-MOD is in a scheduled maintenance and upgrade period. Progress toward readying the machine for the fall operating campaign is continuing. The edge Thomson scattering optical head has completed vacuum cycle testing successfully. Dirk Dimock of PSI visited 9/14 and 9/15 to make final adjustments to the optical head alignment. We are now proceeding with final modifications to the divertor after which the laser beam dump can be installed and aligned. In-vessel work continues at a rapid pace. All outer limiters are now installed and ready for operation. Four out of ten outer divertor modules have been installed. The remaining modules will be installed pending completion of divertor Rogowski work. All current shunt components are in house and ready for assembly. All inner cylinder marker tile modules are installed. Divertor probe installation is complete. The boronization system continues to advance quickly. The gas line to the machine, gas cabinet and gas line vents, gas cabinet sprinkler system, and the rack for PLC control have all been installed in the cell. In addition, fiber optic runs needed for control and data acquisition have been run and terminated. A first draft of operation and safety procedures has been produced. The new EF4 supply has been operated with a 208 V source applied to the transformer primary. Sufficient voltage was developed across the SCRs so that the gate drives could be tested and 300 amps drawn through the forward and reverse convertor sections. Several problems in the wiring harness were discovered and repaired. The PLC control software for the new supply is complete and awaiting testing. Wiring between the control cabinet and the supply is proceeding. Fiber optic lines for the supply have been run and terminated. The 13.8 kV wiring to the transformer is also now proceeding. Several systems needed for machine operation are now coming back on-line. The secondary seal pumps are now operating on all ports except G which is being used for machine access. Vessel heater and thermocouple systems have now been reinstalled and debugged, and heater power tests will begin this week. New cryo system PLC software is being debugged and a new PARAGON screen for verifying coil resistance measurements has been added. The cryostat and coils are now operating in nitrogen purge mode. Checkout of the ECDC system into a dummy load has begun. Martin Greenwald, Joe Snipes, and Steve Wolfe are attending the "IAEA Technical Committee Meeting on H-Mode Physics/U.S.- Japan Workshop on H-Mode Physics" at PPPL this week. Joe snipes will present an invited talk on H-modes in C-MOD. Following this meeting the group will also attend the "Second Workshop of the ITER Expert Group on Confinement and Transport" also at PPPL.
