Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights December 24, 1996 All work on 19 of the 20 lower TF arms is complete. The final arm, which was more extensively disassembled for inspection, will be completed within the next few days. Installation of the new OH partial flux loops is the final task remaining before reassembly of Alcator C-Mod can begin. The design of the loops is complete, and fitup of the coil templates to the vessel inner wall is underway. General maintenance and repair work to engineering systems continues. High voltage testing of 13.8 kV switch gear for the RF systems has been completed and checkouts of the trip relay circuits are underway. The self-powered crowbar circuit used in many of the magnet power supplies is being reviewed and will be made more noise immune. Progress continues to be made on the new RF crowbar systems and control electronics. Primary power distribution to the DNB continued with the installation of the main breaker panel. Work on new invessel diagnostics for installation during this up-to-air is moving forward. A new set of fibers will be installed to view the plasma edge near one of our limiters. Helium injected through a small hole in the limiter will provide localized emission from which line ratios can be determined and used for density and temperature measurements with high spatial resolution. Another set of fibers will view the fast scanning gas probe. A set of RF coils installed in slots between tiles on the inner wall is also being considered. Sean Reagan and Mark May visited last week to discuss installation of their invessel divertor spectrometer as part of our JHU collaboration. This new device should give us detailed information about molybdenum levels in the divertor. A new "IMAGES" subdirectory has been created at our FTP site. It is currently filled with several JPEG test images of machine components and diagnostic systems. This directory will eventually have survey images from inside the vessel, pictures of diagnostics, and pictures of major machine components. A running account of machine reassembly is also planned. A WEB page pointing to this location will be available. There will be no Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights next week.
