Alcator C-MOD Weekly Highlights January 21, 1997 Reassembly of Alcator C-Mod continues. The lower PF coil package is in place and aligned, and the mounting plates are being installed. The OH2L coax has also been installed and resistance checks are underway. All upper PF coils are in place, and alignment of the coils is proceeding. Hi-Pot and ringing tests are being performed on each coil as they are positioned, as are flow rate tests of coil cooling passages and fittings. Many of these tests will be repeated as major components are added to the assembly. Work on power systems last week began to concentrate of improvements to the EF4 supplies to provide more reliable operation with the magnets in the parallel configuration. The EF4 PLC software was upgraded, new reactors for the supply were ordered, and work has begun on improving the response time of the EF4 fault detection circuits. Work on the crowbar circuits and associated trigger units for the new RF transmitters is moving rapidly. The new high voltage trigger transformers are complete and ready for testing. Fitup of coax between the drivers and finals and the finals and the couplers is nearly complete. High yard maintenance continues as we checkout and adjust Ross bottles, breakers, and control circuitry that will supply both the old and new transmitters. We have begun to work on layouts, schematics, and design details of the DNB regulator/modulator and capacitor bank. Power distribution work continues. Our machine shop is working at full capacity producing components needed for the new invessel diagnostics discussed last week. Brian LaBombard visited the University of Texas in Austin last week, and presented a talk on C-Mod SOL studies. He also discussed possible probe experiments for the upcoming run campaign with Roger Bengtson and Dave Winslow.
