Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights October 24, 2005 FY2006 weeks of research operations Planned: TBD Completed: 0 weeks Operations ---------- The data system and machine related instrumentation are being checked out and made ready for power tests later this week. ECDC has continued over the last week as we prepare the vessel wall for plasma operation. Physics Research ---------------- Most of the physicists and students from the group are in Denver this week, participating in the 47'th APS Division of Plasma Physics Conference. Long Pulse DNB -------------- Work continued on the DNB interlock system. ICRF Systems ------------ Maintenance continued on the ICRF power systems. Modifications to the J-Port antenna transmission line that compensate for changes in the electrical length of the antenna without the Faraday screen are complete, and the system is ready for operation. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- Bob Childs and Bill Beck worked with our vendor last week to complete nickel plating of the stainless steel lower hybrid couplers. Eddy current and XRF measurements of the plating indicate all couplers are plated to specification. Braze wetting tests of the #1 and #2 couplers indicate they are ready to be brazed. The #3 and #4 couplers are now in the vacuum furnace undergoing the same wetting test. Work continued on lower hybrid interlocks, 3rd harmonic fault detectors, and amplitude and control systems. Travel and Visits ----------------- Miklos Porkolab visited the University of Wisconsin on October 19th and gave the weekly Physics Department Colloquium. The title of his talk was "Progress in Magnetic Fusion Research and the Promise of ITER." Josh Stillerman attended the 2005 ESnet Collaboration Workshop in Berkeley CA. Ian Hutchinson attended the Fusion Power Associates meeting in Washington, D.C. on October 11 and 12. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
