Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights

Operations
----------

All invessel work has been completed and a detailed photographic
survey has been made.  The pictures may be found at:

We are preparing the vessel for pumpdown later this week.


Lower Hybrid System
-------------------

The first installation attempt of the stainless steel lower hybrid
coupler to the forward waveveguide indicated that the aluminum rf
gaskets were not properly annealed.  The gaskets were re-annealed over
the weekend and are ready for installation.

We have completed calibration measurements of the rf probes from the
patch panel on the launcher to the digitizers, and also 48 of the
directional couplers to the digitizers, using the calibrated 5W
amplifier drive leg.  These measurements will be compared to the high
power calibration measurements made earlier.

All probe and directional coupler cables at the patch panel have been
removed in preparation for the installation of the launcher.  All of
the microwave switch assemblies and temporary test setup supports have
also been removed and are stored out of the cell.  Mechanical phase
shifters have been removed as needed to allow forward movement of the
launcher.


Diagnostics
-----------

The shutter mechanism for the Motional Stark Effect (MSE) diagnostic
was repaired and tested last week.  The invessel wire grid polarizer
was also calibrated using two different techniques to elucidate the
observed variation of polarization angle with angle of incidence.

An in-situ calibration of the inboard wall IR pyrometer was
successfully completed.


Travel and Visits
-----------------

Joe Snipes will be at JET from January 9 to 12 to work with Ambrogio
Fasoli in commissioning the new JET TAE antennas.
