Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights February 6, 2006 FY2006 weeks of research operations: Planned: 14 weeks Completed: 4 weeks Operations ---------- Leak-checks on Monday and Tuesday of last week indicated that Alcator C-Mod is leak-tight with very good vacuum conditions. On Thursday morning full data system cycle tests were run to test both the data system and engineering instrumentation. We also used this time to puff helium gas from the diborane system into the vessel using the Digital Plasma Control System. This test indicated we will be able to do intra-shot fueling with diborane at levels approaching our normal deuterium fueling rates. Torque checks of the magnet bus system have been made, and pre-ops tests of the magnet power supplies have been completed. C-Mod magnets have been cooled down to operational temperatures. The alternator was brought back into operation last week and is now ready for plasma operations. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- Final checks on calibrations, water loads, 3rd harmonic detectors, microwave switches, and the lower hybrid data system are being made in preparation for low power operation into plasma. Long Pulse DNB -------------- The new load resistor fuse assembly for the high voltage power supply has been designed, fabricated, and installed in the DNB electronics rack. New cabling has been run to the fuse assembly, and the system is ready for testing. Travel and Visits ----------------- Amanda Hubbard, Jim Terry, and Ron Parker attended the DIII-D PAC meeting last week. Ron Parker is the DIII-D PAC chairman. Jim Terry remained at GA after the PAC meeting for discussions on ELM stability calculations with GA personnel. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
