Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights December 11, 2006 FY2007 weeks of research operations: tentative target: 15 weeks Completed: 0 weeks Physics ------- The C-Mod Ideas Forum will take place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week, during which 148 ideas will be proposed covering a wide range of C-Mod physics topics. A dynamically updated agenda for the Forum has been placed on-line at http://www.psfc.mit.edu/cmod/sciprogram/ideas2007/agenda_mirror/ideas_forum_agenda.htm Note that the deadline for presentation submission is Dec. 12 at 12 noon Eastern time. Instructions for titling and submitting your electronic presentations can be found at http://www.psfc.mit.edu/cmod/sciprogram/ideas2007/submission.html Further information for remote presenters can be obtained at http://www.psfc.mit.edu/cmod/sciprogram/ideas2007/remote.html Operations ---------- Preventative maintenance continued on the MIT alternator last week as oil level and temperature set-points were verified for proper settings and operation. Machining of the new bolometer box is almost complete, a new more reliable trigger and control system for the C-Mod video cameras is being developed, and preventative maintenance on data acquisition equipment continued, as did development of a new rf multipactor based pre-ionization system for C-Mod. Improvements to the LN2 feed-line and cyrostat GN2 exhaust systems also continued. Upgrades to the PC to PLC interface for the rf system proceeded. Cryopump -------- All three sections of the cryopump have been assembled and leak-checked, and a trial fit-up of the complete cryopump has been performed. Final adjustments to the tubing interconnections, as indicated by the fit-up, will be made before installation in-vessel. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- Following a final inspection, the lower hybrid launcher was re-installed at C-Hor last week, and a successful leak-check performed. Re-installation of the waveguides can now begin which will be followed by an extensive set of calibrations. Work also continued on bringing up klystrons to full power for extended pulse lengths. Work continued on the klystron test stand with mounting of much of the high power and control equipment in the racks. Work on frequency to voltage boards needed for the stand also continued. ICRF Systems ------------ Preparations have been made for hi-yard testing of the ICRF breakers this week. The coil overload protection chassis for the fast ferrite tuners are wired and checked out. The temperature and sensor chassis are nearly complete, and work on the CPLD control board has begun. Cables are being fabricated and wiring lists and assembly information is being generated. Travel and Visits ----------------- John Rice attended the 5th IEA/ITPA Workshop in Naka, Japan, Nov. 30 - Dec. 01, and discussed prioritization of joint experiments. Robert Granetz attended the first day of the NSTX/NCSX research forum at PPPL and gave a C-Mod overview talk on near-term plans and opportunities for collaboration. Jim Terry and Amanda Hubbard presented ideas at the forum. Steve Scott, PPPL, also attended the NSTX/NCSX research forum. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
