Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights January 2, 2007 FY2007 weeks of research operations: tentative target: 15 weeks Completed: 0 weeks Operations ---------- The outside feedline to the 19,000 gallon liquid nitrogen tank is being replaced with a more efficient vacuum line. Components for the new feedline are now in house and installation has begun. Work also continued on the nitrogen gas exhaust system. The LN2 auto-fill system for the diagnostic labs is being upgraded. Work on upgrades to the Thomson scattering, video display, and Langmuir probe electronics continued, as did work on new fiber optic links for the DPCS (Digital Plasma Control System). Work also continued on polarimetry, cxrs, bolometry, and magnetics diagnostics. Diagnostic and DNB calibration and alignment activities continued. All tungsten lamella tile components are in-house and installation of the tiles on outer divertor modules continues. Work continued on the cryopump feedlines and vacuum feedthroughs. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- Testing of the high power circulator and dummy load continued last week. ICRF Systems ------------ Work continued on the Fast-Ferrite-Tuner system as cabling, distribution panels, and control boards are fabricated. The inspection and documentation of FFT#2 is nearly complete, and preparations are being made for the inspection of FFT#1. Upgrades to the ICRF crowbar cabinets continued. Travel and Visits ----------------- Leonid Dorf, a C-Mod collaborator from LANL, was on site for a week between 12/13/06 and 12/20/2006 to prepare an infrared spectrometer diagnostic for installation on C-Mod. This new diagnostic will use the existing IR periscope that brings emission from the plasma and in-vessel surfaces to an IR imaging camera. Working with Jim Terry, it was determined that the region around 2.5 microns was the optimum spectral region for the system. A procedure for aligning the spectrometer with the periscope was devised, and a wavelength calibration for the spectrometer was performed. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
