Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights November 24, 2008 FY2009 weeks of research operations: Target: TBD Completed: 0 weeks Physics ------- C-Mod scientists and students attended the 50th APS-DPP Meeting last week in Dallas, TX. Presentations from the C-Mod team can be found at http://www.psfc.mit.edu/research/alcator/pubs/APS/APS2008/dallas2008index.htm Operations ---------- Silver plating of the TF core fingers continued last week. Tests of the plating indicated additional work would be required at a few locations, which we expect to complete over the next few days. Work also continued on fabrication of new spring-plate packs. Installation is well underway on the insulation upgrade to the curved section of the TF upper and lower arms. This change will significantly reduce the possibility of a ground fault on the TF magnet. Installation and testing of all the inner cylinder heaters are complete. We are preparing to install the insulation that protects these heaters from the liquid nitrogen flow around the OH magnet stack. The heaters required for the rest of the vacuum vessel are in-house and undergoing qualificaition tests. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- High power testing of the copper plated 4-way splitter is complete, and the test fixture has been taken apart for inspection. Components for making another 4-way splitter are in-house, and we will soon have procured the components needed for all the 2nd launcher splitters. The fabrication of waveguide sections incorporating the vacuum windows and rf probes is also proceeding. ICRF Systems ------------ FMIT#4 with the new Intermediate Power Amplifier (IPA) stage has been operated successfully into a dummy load to 1.7 MW. Work on the IPA upgrade for FMIT#3 has begun. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
