Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights March 9, 2009 FY2009 weeks of research operations: Target: TBD Completed: 0 weeks Operations ---------- All TF spring-plates have been installed, and we have begun to install the insulated cover-plates that protect the arm-to-leg sliding joints. A hi-pot of the TF magnet to ground, and checks of sliding joint resistances indicate the TF magnet is in excellent condition and that machine assembly can proceed. Preparations are being made for installation of the retaining cylinder and dome. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- We continued to develop specifications for the components required to feed the new lower hybrid launcher. In-house components used for the 1st launcher are being tested and modeled to determine their suitability for use as part of the new launcher feed system. We also continued fabrication of components for the new lower hybrid launcher including the 4-way splitters and waveguide extensions. ICRF Systems ------------ The FMIT#3 IPA control system has been checked out and is operational. We continued with design work on the Master Fault Processor upgrade for the ICRF control system, and worked on the analog/digital grounding scheme for the new modulator board. Analysis and simulation continued of the new Fast Ferrite Tuner design. Travel and Visits ----------------- Perry Phillips, UT-FRC, was at MIT last week to install the new rf shielded box, and the low frequency RF unit. Waveguide runs were designed for the reconfigured RF unit, and sufficient measurements made to design the waveguide run for the high frequency RF unit. Catherine Fiore, Brian LaBombard, Amanda Hubbard, Dennis Whyte, and Jim Irby attended ReNew Theme III and IV Workshops at UCLA last week. Theme III focused on the Plasma Material Interface (PMI), while Theme IV was concerned with harnessing Fusion Power (FP). Dennis Whyte gave talks on "An Energy Sustainment Science Mission" and "Taming PMI - Energy Sustainment". Brian LaBombard gave a presentation on "Towards Building a Credible Vision for DEMO --- Edge Transport". Brian LaBombard serves on the Plasma Wall Interaction panel and Jim Irby is on the Internal Components panel. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
