Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights May 4, 2009 FY2009 weeks of research operations: Target: TBD Completed: 0 weeks Operations ---------- Re-assembly of the alternator is proceeding. The rotor bore copper has been re-installed and Megger and Polarization Index tests on the rotor windings have been successfully completed. The rotor is being positioned in the alternator housing and will soon be back on its bearings. Preparations are being made for stator Megger and Hi-Pot tests. Re-assembly of the C-Mod cryostat is complete, and work is proceeding on installation of the vertical and horizontal port boots that seal the cryostat against outside air. Installation of horizontal flanges and upper and lower Tees continued. The vacuum pumping station has been installed on the H-Port horizontal port. Installation of the error field correction coils continued, as did inspection and re-assembly of the magnet bus system in the power room. Lower Hybrid System ------------------- Successful braze tests of the vacuum window into the forward waveguide have been completed. Preparations for the production run in which the sixty-four waveguide windows will be brazed, four at a time, are being made. Fabrication continued on other launcher components, including the 4-way splitters, bellows support plates, launcher positioning system, right angle transmission line sections, and Inconel plates and rods needed to clamp the forward structure together. The 4-way splitter prototype has been installed in the high power test stand. Network analyzer measurements of the prototype agree with predictions from the simulations. Thermocouples and probes are being installed in preparation for the high power tests. The design of the new magic tee splitters has been completed. The new design minimizes the electric field in locations that could cause rf breakdown at full power. Fabrication drawings for the magic tees are being prepared. Design of the lower hybrid control system upgrade and the rf probe electronics and protection system continued. ICRF Systems ------------ Work on the Master Fault Processor mezzanine board layout continued. The design of the ethernet interface section of the board has been sent for review to the maker of the peripheral interface controller (PIC) used in the design. The FMIT#3 driver has been operated at low to moderate power into a dummy load. Travel and Visits ----------------- Igor Bespamyatnov, UT-FRC, was at MIT last week to prepare the wide view CXRS diagnostic for the next campaign. John Rice, Catherine Fiore, Martin Greenwald, Jerry Hughes, Miklos Porkolab, Darin Ernst, Liang Lin (now at UCLA), and Bill Rowan, UT-FRC, attended the TTF Workshop in San Diego, CA last week, and presented C-Mod relevant material. Their presentation titles may be found at http://ttf2009.ucsd.edu/TTFMeetingProgram2009RR.pdf _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
