Alcator C-Mod Weekly Highlights January 4, 2010 FY2010 weeks of research operations Base Target: tbd Base Completed: 1.7 weeks ARRA Target: 5 weeks ARRA Completed: 5.0 weeks Plasma Shots: 807 Operations ---------- Alcator C-Mod is currently in a planned maintenance period dedicated primarily to the installation of the new lower hybrid launcher. Routine maintenance of many C-Mod systems is also planned for this period. Lower Hybrid System -------------------- Welding of the plasma facing surface of the lower hybrid grill was successfully completed last week. This operation was the last major fabrication task required to complete the launcher. The launcher can now be moved into the C-Mod cell where extensive calibration work will be performed. Work continued on the launcher control and protection software, installation of waveguide runs from the klystrons, phase and amplitude calibrations of cabling and coupler components, and the hardware needed for the new rf probes. ICRF Systems ------------ Routine maintenance continues on the ICRF systems with work last week concentrating on the transmitter crowbar cabinets. Alternator ---------- MIT has agreed to provide funding for a new alternator oil cooling system that will allow C-Mod to operate during the late summer without concern over the Charles River water temperature. The alternator drive motor transformer over-temperature indication that stopped C-Mod operation on 12/19/09 continues to be investigated. The transformer has been successfully tested and qualified for operation. The thermal switches that indicated the fault are being replaced, and additional instrumentation is being added to monitor the temperatures. Routine maintenance continued on components associated with the helium gas cooling and vacuum systems. _______________________________________________ Cmod_weekly mailing list Cmod_weekly@lists.psfc.mit.edu http://lists.psfc.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/cmod_weekly
