Power Systems Instrumentation Checklist 12/09/98 JHI Coil Resistance Measurements . inspect Ross relays . verify that all terminals and contacts are clean . polish contacts if required . vacuum the instrumentation racks . change air filters and make sure all rack fans are operational . verify that 5 amp bus fuses are installed and continuous on the 5 volts source supplies . verify that 1/2 amp bus fuses are installed and continuous on the voltage taps across the bus . turn on 5 volt supplies and verify readings at PLC . note we have a screen to display voltage and current on all coils and commutation resistors Voltage Measurements . remove 1/2 bus fuses on voltage taps . apply 60 Hz, 100 volt RMS signal across voltage tap leads. Signal should also be digitized through precision voltage divider. . verify proper signal levels through data system Current Shunts . remove BNC cable from shunt . using precision voltage source apply +1, and -1 volts to the cable . verify proper signal levels through data system . apply 1 kHz, 8 volt p-p, square wave to cable and send this signal to the data system . verify proper signal levels through data system Bus Rogowski Coils . install leads across bus Rogowski (and shunt if possible) to stepdown transformer. A precision shunt should also be in line with it's signal going to the data system. . apply 500 to 700 amps through the Rogowski at 60 Hz . verify proper signal level through data system . verify proper signal levels through to Hybrid computer MOV Rogowski Coils . install leads across MOV Rogowski to stepdown transformer . apply 500 to 700 amps through Rogowski at 60 Hz . verify proper signal level through data system Commutation Rogowskis . install leads across MOV Rogowski to stepdown transformer . apply 500 to 700 amps through Rogowski at 60 Hz . verify proper signal level through data system Ground Fault Fuses . verify the TF center tap ground is connected properly . verify that all fuses are continuous with an ohmmeter . pop each switch and verify that we get a ground fault alarm in the control room . verify fault propagates properly around the power room Ground Fault Current Pearson Transformers . use SCR to dump a 5 to 20 amp, 100 uS long pulse through each Pearson Transformer with a shunt in series. . measure current with shunt signal sent to data system . verify proper signal level through data system Reed Switches . use a small magnet to check that all the bus reed switches work properly and sound horn . check that MOV reed switches latch relays Hi-Yard Signals .
