Run summary for 1000509, MP256, Impurity Transport Coefficient Profiles in
P-mode

The purpose of this run was to determine the profiles of the impurity
diffusion coefficient and convection velocity during P-mode, induced
by lithium pellet injection. Complete radial brightness profiles for He-like
argon lines were obtained. Density and temperature profiles were obtained
from Thomson scattering, with the normal coverage extended by moving the
plasma down on shots 17 and 18, and up on shot 20. The radial scan was done
at 1 MA plasma current, with the prospect of moving the location of the
P-mode peaking out in radius. However, the peaking occured inside of 6.5 cm
in minor radius, the same location that was seen for 0.8 MA. Useful shots
for the scan were 08 through 20. The pellet injector performed reliably,
with 32 total pellets fired, of which only one seemed to fragment. Most
shots had 2 pellets, for a comparison of Ohmic P-mode with ICRF PEP mode,
which occured on some of the shots with the second pellet at .93 s, and the
RF begining at 1.0 s. This should allow for a complete characterization of
the impurity transport coefficient profiles in conjunction with modeling
from MIST.

Power system setup as on 1000505023
OH and TF fizzle delays of 300 and 400 ms.

Gas setup - fill B-top 6 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled
fill B-side lower 1 psi of Ar Hybrid enabled
leave B-side upper as is Hybrid DISABLED
fill C-side 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled
leave J-bottom as is Hybrid DISABLED

Run Plan:
---------

Start up from last plasma shot from Friday. RF will not be
needed at the beginning of the run, but can fire late in the
shot as can the the DNB. We will try to fire two pellets during each
discharge and try to have two target densities. RF will be needed later
in the run probably during the second pellet injection.

Results:

We started the run with two test shots. Shot 1 was
a cycle and gas test while we waited for the alternator to
come up to speed. Shot 2 was the standard OH test. Several
of the first plasma shots were lost early either because of
pellets or too much argon. The argon was reduced on shot
8. We had one fizzle today because the DNB was not enabled
for the shot, and the prefill pressure was therefore too low.
A plasma Z-position scan was run over shots 17, 18, 20, for
the core TS. LPI worked well.

Generally a very good run from the operations standpoint.

Problems:

May have a problem with the E port phaseshifter.
We will pump,purge, and backfill with SF6 tomorrow
morning.

Lost some data on shot 16 because of a disk full problem.

Scanning probe at f-bottom seems to be injecting dust
into plasma after it retracts. May have caused disruption
on shot 22.
