Engineering Setup:

The machine should be boronized overnight with 1700 to 2000 Angstroms of
boron following by as much helium ECDC as possible while stopping at 07:30.

Run begins at 9:00 and ends at 17:00

Power system setup: Same as for 1000823017 (5.2 T, 1 MA inner wall diverted)

Set OH1, OH2U and OH2L fizzle delays at 400ms
Set TF fizzle delay at 500 ms


Gas setup: B-Top 6 psi D2 Hybrid Enabled
B-side lower 1 psi Argon Hybrid DISABLED
B-side upper leave as is Hybrid DISABLED
C-side 30 psi D2 Hybrid Enabled
J-bottom leave as is Hybrid DISABLED

The following Gate Valves should be ENABLED, assuming no vacuum problems:

For first plasma shot, load from 1000823017 (1.0 MA, 5.2 T).

Summary:

We had a number of discharges disrupt early. There appeared to be no
clear indication that one antenna was responsible. Camera views of
D-port are quiet the entire day and J-port was more active but did not
appear to consistently correspond to disruptions. We suspect that the
input power is not being absorbed in the core because of the high H/D
ratio, but is absorbed parasitically near the plasma edge resulting in
impurity production. The power limit appeared to decrease over the
course of the day. D and E-port power conditioning is nearly
complete. We need lower H/D to make further progress with them.
J-port is improving steadily and would benefit from further power
conditioning discharges.

Overnight ECDC in D2 at 2e-4 Torr was done instead

Summary:

Machine ran extremely well today. We made no changes to the
startup from yesterday and got 100% startup reliability. The RF
was able to couple in over 3.2 MW of power from D, E, and J, but
very high H/D ratios limited our ability to heat. The
RF also caused early disruptions on many shots today. We turned
off the RF power on shot 23 to verify that the RF was causing
this problem and got a full length plasma discharge. On shot 24,
1 MW of RF power was okay and we got another full length plasma.
It should be pointed out that the RF pulses were very clean today,
with few interrupts. One hopes that we can do this well when we
get the hydrogen fraction down again. On shot 25, we raised the
density and the RF power and lost the plasma early. Shot 26, the
last shot of the day, was at the lower density, 1.5 MW of RF from
D and J, and full length.

H/D generally seemed to be improving through out the day, but
was still around 36% on the last shot.


Problems:

Had a cluster hangup before run caused by some sort of login
problem with Claret.

TF did not run on first shot. TF, OH, and EF1s did not run
on shot following an ACK failure.

checked/verified that no C2D6 puffing was enabled
