Comparing 1.5 MW discharges from D&E and J, the D&E plasmas ran while the J-port ones disrupted early. H-side corners and K-side upper corner have confirmed injections that result in disruptions. At BT up to 5.8 T, D and E-port ran reliably individually. This is an improvement over May and June when D would fault at fields < 5.4 T. We have a cross coupling problem with high H/D at higher fields. Reducing H/D could improve operations of both the J-port injections and the cross coupling at higher toroidal fields. |

| Run Plan and Engineering Setup for 1000825 MP268 ICRF Commissioning MP276 SOL Trans/Burping (Piggyback) Session Leader: S. Wukitch Physics Operator: B. Rowan Engineering Operators: B. Cochran/G. Dekow Engineering Setup: Overnight ECDC in D2, stopping 1-2 hours before run. Run begins 9:00 and ends at 15:00. Power system setup: Same as for 1000824026 (5.2 T, 0.8 MA, inner wall diverted) Set OH1, OH2U and OH2L fizzle delays at 300ms Set TF fizzle delay at 400 ms Gas setup: B-Top 6 psi D2 Hybrid Enabled B-side lower 1 psi Argon Hybrid DISABLED B-side upper leave as is Hybrid DISABLED C-side 30 psi D2 Hybrid Enabled J-bottom leave as is Hybrid DISABLED The following Gate Valves should be ENABLED, assuming no vacuum problems: ECE, VUV Run Plan: Load from shot 1000824026 Conduct ICRF commissioning according to SL desires ICRF after 0.7 s to facilitate burping probe experiment Perhaps diverted discharges later in the day for burping probe experiments. Per Sanjay, reference shot for this is 1000517019 (0.8 MA, 5.2 T, 10^20 m^-3) ********** Summary The initial experiments was MP268 ICRF Commissioning. The run was started with the last shot of the previous day, 1000824026. Shots 002 and 003 were used to reduce the outer gap to approximately 1.2 cm to improve the RF coupling. The plasma disrupted early on these two shots. The 2Pi bolometer indicated increased radiation prior to the disruption. On shot 004, the outer gap was returned to 2 cm. The shot ran full length. It appears that the RF system is the source of the radiation and the disruptions. The TF was scanned shot by shot from 5.2 T to 5.8 T on shots 009 through 017. Actually, the highest value was reached on shot 013 and the remaining shots in the scan were taken to achieve the required RF parameters -- see SL summary. The second experiment was MP276 SOL Trans/Burping. This experiment was running in piggyback mode earlier, but took control for shots 022 through 025. Score card Plasma. Full length shots. 12 Plasma. Disruption. 9 (due to RF) Fizzles 2 Engineering problems 2 Total 25 The disruptions seemed to be due to RF. On the fizzles (020 and 023), the initial pressure and the null matched that on the successful shots. After the fizzle on shot 020, I did nothing and 021 was successful. After the fizzle on shot 023, I raised the pressure by an inconsequential amount -- intending to continue if there was another fizzle. Shot 024 was successful. ********** Details Delay in start. Note from Irby: A failure in a HEAT PLC module caused a trip of the HEAT breaker. Willy and Gary have been working on the problem since very early this morning, and the start time estimate assumes they are able to fix the problem. The vessel average temp dropped below -60C and minimum temps reached -125C. No leaks however. Started PCS and loaded shot 1000824026 Did cold start.
