| Physop Summary for September 27, 2000 SL: Boswell PO: Rowan EO: Dekow Engineering setup: ------------------- Overnight boronization followed by ECDC in He, stopping 1-2 hours prior to run Run begins at 9:00, and ends at 17:00 Power System Setup: Same as on 1000914020 Gas setup - fill B-top with 6 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled fill B-side lower with 1 psi of Ar Hybrid DISABLED fill B-side upper with 35 psi of D2 Hybrid DISABLED, available ECDC fill C-side with 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled leave J-bottom as is Hybrid DISABLED The following gate valves should be enabled, assuming no vacuum problems: ECE, VUV DNB gate valve will be disabled. Run Plan for 1000927: --------- Boronization Recovery and MP223: Recombination and Ionization in the Alcator C-Mod divertor Goals: - Obtain an reliable plasma start-up after last night's boronization - To characterize the magnitude, location, and evolution of the volume recombination and ionization in the Alcator C-Mod divertor in flapper open and flapper closed discharges - Obtain spatial temperature and density profiles using D_gamma to continuum profile ratios for the above listed condition Shot Sequence: (a total of 8 shots at two densities) - 2 shots similar to shot 1000920014, one with the flappers open and one with the flappers closed for the entire shot. - 2 shots with nl_04 = 0.9 x 10^20 m^-2, again one with flappers open and one with flappers closed - 4 shots that are repeats of the above 4 with a different set of filters in the divertor cameras. Run Summary --------------- Overnight boronization preceeded this run. To allow RF work, ECDC was limited to 50 minutes before the run started. There was a delay in the start because pcs would not run in the available space on the scratch disk. This problem was remedied; the reference shot was loaded, and the cold start completed by 9:40. The first shot was good and the prefill pressure was essentially identical to that on the reference shot. Did not expect this given the lack of ECDC and the prerun boronization. Started the MP by the third shot. Satisfied the SL and completed the current requirements of MP223 by shot 009. RF work was conducted in the cell for the next 3 to 4 hours. The last few shots of the day were used for RF conditioning/testing. Score card. Plasmas 13 Fizzles 0 Duds 0 Total 13 Delays for RF work and to remedy computer problems. Details of the run ------------------- Boronization overnight. ECDC for 50 minutes before run. ECDC turned off for RF work. Will start run anyway. If there are problems, then will stop run and do an hour of ECDC before continuing. Delay in start. No space on scratch disk. Messages left for Tom and Josh Space problems resolved Loaded shot 1000920014. Completed cold start at 9:40 001. Plasma. Made no allowance for last night's boronization. Next shot: no changes 002. Plasma Next shot: no changes SL starting experiment. 003. Plasma Next shot: Reduced density to 0.9. Note correction to previous entry. Cell access after this shot. SL specifies that we not change the shot cycle. 004. Plasma. Density approx 1.0. SL satisfied. Next shot: No changes in plasma setup. 005. Plasma. Cell access after this shot. Again SL only requires that the shot cycle not be affecte Increased density to 1.5 for next shot 006. Plasma. Density approx. 1.6 Next shot: no changes in the plasma setup 007. Plasma. Next shot: reduce density to 1.0 008. Plasma. Density approx. 1.0 009. Plasma. Delay while RF works in the cell and Boswell looks at his data. Last shot for MP223. RF takes over beginning on the next shot. 010. Plasma. Disruption at 0.78s Strong increase on the 2 pi bolometer just before the disruption. RF (but low power) before the disruption. Appears to me that something fell in. 011. Plasma. Disruption at 1.5 s. 012. Plasma. Disruption at 1.3 s. 013. Plasma. |
