| Run Summary for 1001019 MP#267 Redo of "Dependence of SOL Fluctuations and Particle Transport on Collisionality" - Day 2 Session Leader - B. LaBombard Phys Op - E. Marmar ============================================================================== Overall objectives of MP#267: "The purpose of these experiments is to explore the dependence of SOL fluctuation characteristics and attendant cross-field particle transport on the collisionality of the SOL." Reason for today's run: The purpose of today's run was to redo the second run day outlined in MP#267. The last time we ran this MP, the Lyman-alpha array was not operating. The goal was to complete a density, current and B-field scan with ASP and FSP probes reaching the separatrix and with the Lyman-alpha array working. Today's result: Another very successful "all ohmic, all the time" day. We got four density scans with four combinations of current/field: (Ip=1.04, Bt=5.3), (Ip=0.53, Bt=5.3), (Ip=0.8, Bt=4) and (Ip=0.8, Bt=6) Although we had not orginally planed on it, we also got a lot of CII and CIII plume images from the 'burping' FSP probe (see Sanjay's entries under the EDGE topic in the logbook). From these, we hope to infer the magnitude of Er and perhaps its variation across the SOL under a variety of collisionalities. Once again, ohmic H-modes showed up without any special conditioning (except that we where puffing in C2D4 just about every shot). (see shots 9 and 18, for example) On a couple of 0.53 MA shots, we pushed the 'burping' FSP deep to look for negative Er inside the separatrix. There may be a hint of negative Er on the plumes but in any case Er sure is weak near the separatrix in L-mode. Analysis of data from this set of discharges should allow us to compute Deff profiles across the SOL for a variety of collisionalities and to relate changes in particle transport to fluctuation characteristics. On this run day, the ASP probe head had a North-South probe spacing of 6 mm, while on the previous attempt (100602) the probe spacing was 4 mm. A comparison of fluctuation spectra obtained by the two probe arrangements could be enlightening. Shot notes: ALL shots today: ASP setup: N,S - Vf : E,W - single swept mode FSP setup: N,S - Vf : E,W - DOUBLE swept mode Shot 1 - 1MA, NL04 ~ 1, 5.3 Tesla No probes scanning Shot 2 - 1.04MA, NL04 ~ 1, 5.3 Tesla ASP and FSP scanning at 0.7, 0.95, 1.2 seconds No plumes Shot 3 - 1.04MA, NL04 ~ 1, 5.3 Tesla ASP and FSP scanning at 0.7, 0.95, 1.2 seconds ASP overheats on first and third scan. | Physop run summary 1001019 MP267 Dependence of SOL Fluctuations and Particle Transport on Collisionality SL LaBombard PO Marmar EO Fitzgerald/Parkin The machine ran with no problems today. There was 1 fizzle; small tweaks to B_R offset and prefill puff may have helped after the fizzle. One shot disrupted early, because a scanning probe overheated during insertion. We covered all of the plasma conditions requested for the run plan, which included density scans at 3 values of current and field. Shot 5 went into ohmic H-Mode at 5.3 tesla, 1.05 MA. Scorecard: 23 plasmas 1 fizzle __ 24 data system cycles |
