| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- RF Setup: Transmitters 1, 2, 3, and 4 should be in run-on by 08:00. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Plan: MP 215 : J antenna conditioning The first shot will be an OH test under PLC control to confirm that the magnetics system is working properly after yesterday's maintenance. For plasma operation, load 1010606016 (1 MA, 5.4 T). Between-shot ECDC will probably be used to reduce the H/D ratio further. Helium will be puffed for DNB/CXRS. We may also try to do some more shaping changes for the ASDEX comparison MP. This will primarily involve increasing CLEARIN (keeping outer gap constant), and RXL (keeping strike point below the nose). 1. Increase J-port pulse duration and power 2. Verify calibration factors for J4. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 001 OH test 002 Demand: Ip=1MA, nl04=0.8x10^20 D: 0.5 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 0.5 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: 0.12 MW [.63-.645s] J4: 0.13 MW [.63-.645s] Result: good plasma Ip=1 MA, nl04 to 1.0x10^20 D: 0.7 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 0.7 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: 0.10 MW [.63-.645s] J4: 0.10 MW [.63-.645s] retuned J4 for shot 003 003 Demand: Ip=1MA, nl04=0.8x10^20 D: 0.9 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 0.9 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: 0.175 MW [.63-.665s] J4: 0.175 MW [.63-.665s] Result: good plasma Ip=1 MA, nl04 to 1.0x10^20 (small H-mode at 1.3 s) D: 0.9 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 0.9 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: faults J4: faults undid previous tune for J4 for shot 004 004 Demand: Ip=1MA, nl04=0.8x10^20 D: 1.1 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 1.1 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: 0.175 MW [.63-.665s] J4: 0.175 MW [.63-.665s] Result: good plasma Ip=1 MA, nl04 to 1.0x10^20 (small H-mode at 1.2 s) D: 1.1 MW [.85-1.5s] fault at 1.36 E: 1.1 MW [.85-1.5s] faults at 1.22 (phase balance),1.24,1.26 J#: 0.2 MW J4: 0.2 MW E went into supersafe mode after phase balance fault after shot 4 Trans #2 had crowbars fire there were faults on HVPS AC, HVPS DC, and screens 005 Demand: Ip=1MA, nl04=0.8x10^20 D: 1.2 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 1.2 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: 0.225 MW [.63-.665s] J4: 0.225 MW [.63-.665s] Result: good plasma Ip=1 MA, nl04 to 1.0x10^20 (small H-mode at 1.2 s) D: 1.2 MW, but faults on ramp (.86,.88,.91,.93,.96, .98), then faults after 1.38s E: 1.2 MW, but faults at 1.23 (phase balance due to H-mode),1.24,1.26 J3: off because of J4 faults J4: faults 006 Demand: Ip=1MA, nl04=0.8x10^20 D: 1.2 MW [.85-1.5s] E: 1.2 MW [.85-1.5s] J3: 0.4 MW [.58-.71s] J4: 0.4 MW [.58-.71s] Result: good plasma Ip=1 MA, nl04 to 1.0x10^20 (small H-mode at 1.2 s) D: 1.2 MW but faults on ramp (.86,.88,.91,.93,.96, .98), then faults after 1.38s E: 1.2 MW, but faults at 1.23 (phase balance due to H-mode),1.24,1.32 J3: 0.4 MW fault at .66s J4: 0.4 MW fault at .66s during shot Trans #1 had a phase balance fault after shot 006 on trans #3 we are disabling the soft-start relay on the driver screen, since it is intermittant. The maximum power from all the antennas was ~4 MW but these were ~1 msec. The maximum sustained power from all antennas was 3.7 MW, see shot 012. The difficulties today were numerous. FMIT#1 has a power supply phase balance fault early in the day. D-port also appeared to have numerous phase balance faults from the strap nearest E-port and had to be started before E-port or it would not run. FMIT#3 had HV ready failures during at least 2 discharges (control ladder problem). FMIT#4 had a tube arc that fried the screen rollback circuit resulting a missed shot lat in the day. FMIT#4 also proved to be the most difficult to match. The proper match was extremely difficult to find because too low (<200 kW) of a power resulted in what appears to be multipactoring and too high simply faulted for the entire discharge. However, 018 was very encouraging because we were able to verify the calibration factors for J4. |

This will primarily involve increasing CLEARIN (keeping outer gap constant), and RXL (keeping strike point below the nose). Results: The machine ran well. The DNB was down with a power supply problem. The RF made good progress today, including a few shots with all 4 transmitters running simultaneously into plasma (e.g. shot 12). Efforts were made to add as much D_2 as possible, without increasing the density, by puffing through the middle of the shot (20 V preprogram on PG3, with feedback turned off, and then 100 V during rampdown). ECDC was also run in deuterium before every shot. H/D levels fell slowly through the day; they still rise during RF, but only up to about 0.4 by the end of the run. The last shot of the day was lost to a data system problem, probably caused by a CAMAC highway problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overnight ECDC in D2 was done. Hybrid coldstart done; no errors found ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DNB has a fault of unknown origin which prevents operation for the moment.
