| Run Plan for Tuesday, June 12, 2001 Boronization Recovery MP215 Jport RF Conditioning SL: Wukitch/Boivin PO: Snipes Engineering setup: Boronization overnight prior to run. XMTR 1 through 4 should be in run-on by 8:00 AM. Run starts at 9:00AM Power systems as on 1010608018. Gas setup: fill B-top with 6 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled (PG4) fill B-side lower with 1 psi of Ar Hybrid enabled (PG1) fill B-side upper with 6 psi of He Hybrid DISABLED (PG2) ** fill C-side with 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3) fill J-bottom with 6 psi of He Hybrid DISABLED (PG5) ** Enable the following gate valves: ECE, DNB, and VUV. Run plan: The run will be boronization recovery followed by RF conditioning, MP215. If it can be accommodated without problems to the other activities, we will attempt to finish the shape development for MP287, ASDEX comparison. Changes made to RF during the abbreviated maintenance day: 1. J-port phase balance enable had its offset adjusted (offset comes from the fiber optic transmitters) 2. Notch filters were installed in D-port I-probes to eliminate cross talk from E-port. 3. D-port water system was repaired but the repair failed. D-port is off the air till further notice. 001 Ip~1.0 MA, nl04~0.8, BT~5.4 E: 0.8 [.8,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec result: plasma, late H-mode E: 0.8 with 3 faults J3: 0.8 multitude of faults J4: 0.8 multitude of faults 002 Ip~1.0 MA, nl04~0.8, BT~5.4 E: 1.0 [.8,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec result: plasma, late H-mode E: 1.0 with 3 faults J3: 0.8 multitude of faults J4: 0.8 multitude of faults screen xbar fired on #3 next shot: change phase by +90deg (20 to 110) 003 Ip~1.0 MA, nl04~0.8, BT~5.4 E: 1.0 [.8,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec result: plasma, early disruption E: 1.0 MW J3: 0.8 multitude of faults J4: 0.8 multitude of faults 004 Ip~1.0 MA, nl04~0.8, BT~5.4 E: 1.2 [.8,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec with slow ramp J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec with slow rapm result: plasma, late H-mode E: 1.2 MW J3: 0.8 multitude of faults but more data J4: 0.8 multitude of faults but more data 005 E: 1.0 [.8,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma, late H-mode E: 1.0 MW J3: 0.8 multitude of faults but more data J4: 0.8 multitude of faults but more data optical monitoring is picking up light from one strap (#4) that correspond to a fault. phase is ~0,.7pi,0,.7pi next shot: change from 110 deg to 140 deg 006 fizzle 007 E: 1.0 [.8,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma, late H-mode E: 1.0 MW J3: 0.8 multitude of faults J4: 0.8 multitude of faults phase is ~0,.6pi,0,.6pi next shot: change from 140 deg to 80 deg 008 E: 1.0 [1.2,1.5] sec J3:0.8 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.8 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma, late H-mode E: 1.0 MW J3: 0.8 multitude of faults J4: 0.8 multitude of faults phase is ~0,.9pi,0,.9pi 009 E: 1.0 [1.2,1.5] sec J3:0.4 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.4 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma, late H-mode E: 0.9 MW J3: 0.4 better - faults @ .655, 1.12 s J4: 0.4 faults 010 E: 1.0 [1.2,1.5] sec J3:0.5 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.5 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma, late H-mode H/D climbs to 0.11 E: 0.9 MW J3: 0.5 more faults J4: 0.5 more faults J ran in H-mode loading drops to ~12 ohms repeat with retune on #3 start ECDC between discharges 011 E: 1.0 [1.2,1.5] sec J3:0.5 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.5 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma, late H-mode H/D climbs to 0.11 E: 0.9 MW J3: 0.5 more faults J4: 0.5 more faults 012 runaway density 013 power test 014 E: 1.0 [1.2,1.5] sec J3:0.5 [0.6,1.5] sec with slower ramp J4:0.5 [0.5,1.5] sec with slower ramp result: plasma E: 0.9 MW J3: 0.5 cleaner J4: 0.5 cleaner phase is ~[0,pi,pi,0] Post run vacuum conditioning J3 J4 J3 J4 [MW] [MW] [kV] [kV] 1586 60 60 1587 80 80 16 J4 faulted 1588 1589 1590 1591 1592 1593 1594 1595 1596 1597 1598 phase balance faults have been replaced by DC0 faults 1599 1600 1601 Summary: E-port antenna conditioned very quickly and J-port was making progress in reconditioning after boronization. Both antennas had clear indications of heating. However, it became clear that J-port needed to be voltage conditioned again; therefore, we decided to switch to vacuum conditioning. During conditioning, FMIT#4 phase shifter began breaking down after it reached 25 kV and then began to decrease suggesting something had become tracked. We will need to disassemble and inspect before we continue with J-port testing. |

Run plan: The run will be boronization recovery followed by RF conditioning, MP215. If it can be accommodated without problems to the other activities, we will attempt to finish the shape development for MP287, ASDEX comparison. Summary: The post boronization run was a breeze. The plasmas all went full length except for shot 6 that fizzled. There was also one test on shot 13. There were 12 full length plasmas, 1 test, and 1 fizzle. Shot 1: Copied shot 1010608018. Enabled B-side upper He puff for DNB. Turned off the gas puff Marmar had put in after 1.5 s and turned the nl04 feedback on again out to 1.85 s. nl04 request set to 8 x 10^19 m^-2 as before. Ip set to 1 MA as before. Good shot ramps all the way down. RF H-mode 1.3 - 1.5 s. Shot 2: Good shot. H-mode from 1.2 - 1.6 s. Shot 3: Repeat. Disrupted at 1.08 s perhaps due to an impurity injection. Shot 4: Reduced prepuff to 18 ms duration from 24 ms due to the disruption. Good plasma but with some x rays early. Shot 5: Good shot. Shot 6: Fizzle! Shot 7: Raise EF4 current by 20 A from -1290 to -1270 A. Good plasma. Shot 8: Good shot. Shot 9: Repeat with DNB pulse at 1.3 s. Good shot. Shot 10: Good shot. H-mode from 1.37 sec into rampdown as on several shots today. H/(H+D) now > 0.1 at the end of the shot. So, we will now do ECDC in D2 between shots for 10 minutes. Shot 11: Good shot. H-mode from 1.27 sec to 1.56 sec. H/(H+D) now < 0.09 at the end of the shot. So, we will continue to do ECDC in D2 between shots for 10 minutes. Shot 12: Good shot until we lost the interferometer at about 0.86 sec. Still, it went fine until about 1.78 sec when it disrupted probably because the density feedback was not working and there was too much gas. Shot 13: EF2U and L test shot because of a noise spike on their rogowskis on shot 12 that made them integrate up wrongly. O.K. No problems with the integrators. Shot 14: Good shot. H/(H+D) down to 0.06. The ECDC between shots really helps to keep it down. Stopping the run for RF maintenance. |
