Summary:

Before the run, J-port was conditioned to 32 kV and then was operated
into plasma. D-port was tested into vacuum and arcing was detected at
relatively low voltage. This system was then shutdown.

J-port reached 2.5 MW without significant RF-plasma edge interaction
at the antenna corners. However, some interaction was observed on a
couple of discharges (018 and 019) on the K-side of the septum at the
midplane. Comparing the faults with the optical monitor, we conclude
that the system reliability was limited by the phase shifter, ie the
arcs are in the transmission line. Into plasmas, the voltage reached
~22-24 kV during H-mode (021) which is ~50% higher than last campaign.
We will test the phase shifter tomorrow.

Results:

The first shot was a dud because the PO unwisely decided not to
ECDC following J-Port conditioning. Though the conditioning
barely showed up at all on the RGA and the pressure rise was
just a couple X 10-8 Torr, clearly something is released
in the vessel that can cause a dud. Generally we had problems
with fizzles following disruptions and never got into a good
running mode. However, the j-port antenna did get some
shots with 2.5 MW of power for about 20 ms. As usual, it was
necessary to run ECDC to try and keep H/D down.

The front face of the J-Port antenna looks much better than
in December. Very little light even from the septum and
edge protection tiles. Generally, J-Port seems to be coming
up nicely. We had sustained periods with 2.5 MW of power.
The fault detection system seems to be operating well with
very short response times. The plasma does not seem
to be degraded by faulting as it was in the past either because
of improved fault protection or because the plasma facing
components are behaving much better.

H/D was generally higher than we would like most of the day.
More between shot ECDC should fix this problem. The carbon II
levels are coming up, possibly indicative of the quality of
our boronization.

Problems:

Lost one shot to OH2L breaker pull for no clear reason. Fizzles
and duds probably the result of J-Port conditioning and
possibly operation. ECDC only ran to 22:30 last night, so we
did not get as much cleanup as we expected (high TC temp fault).
