| Run Summary for 1020820 SL: Lynn MP #309, with development for MP's 307 and 301 This run was intended to develop ITB discharges with BT= 5.4 T and 70 MHz RF and run MP 309. MP 309 called for small (1-2%) Bt ramps to allow small changes to the heterdyne ECE system channel location. This was for interchannel calibration and to attempt the measure the Te gradient with and without the ITB's. Results: The Bt ramps worked as desired, after a bit of tweaking of the ramp magnitude. Changes were visible in the Te time traces over the ~ 1 cm the channels were shifted. In the outer channels changes were easy to see, less so as one looked further in. It should be possible to estimate the Te gradients from this. There was also plenty of sawteeth for heat pulse propagation analysis. We also have ramps during some of the H-modes, so we can look at the gradients during them. As for the ITB's, they proved difficult. Shot 5 at ~1.2s and shot 6 at ~1s appear to be the best we got today. Part of one of the Bt sweeps may have caught the ITB on shot 5, but we'll have to look more closely to see. Neither looked that great, when compared with the density rise seen in our reference shot #1010801025. As the run progressed, there was a great deal of radiated power and later shots showed little in the way of an ITB. OH problems on shot 16 lead to a series of OH tests for shots 17-20. On shot 24, the DNB and MSE fired during one of the Bt ramps to see if MSE could see any change. | PO Hutch SL Lynn MPs 309, 307, 301 ITBs at 5.4T with 70 MHz. Summary _______ Shot 5 got a semi decent ITB. Then the radiation gradually got worse. It amounts to the fact that we are able to get accumulation, but it is mostly accumulation of impurities. The H-modes, even though they show EDA character, are snuffed out by the rising radiation. Raising the density did not seem to help. On shot 15 a problem arose with OH2L which killed shot 16 at startup. Approximately 3.5 hours were then spent fixing the supplies. TF field wiggles were present on all shots for ECE calibration and sweep. Shot 23 moved the EF1 crowbar to .15s, and 24 to .13s. This is a much better way to run if you are going for a diverted shot early. Without it EF1s can't keep themselves negative enough and the EF2s are close to rails. With it, these shots were diverted, according to EFIT from .14s on (Mfil is more conservative) and power supplies were properly within limits.
