Session Leader Summary for 1021025.
This run was the last phase of MP 324A, to study plasma confinement during
current ramp, and to see if an ITB would form during the reversed shear phase in
the presence of central and off-axis RF heating. The run went very well, with
RF power coupled routinely into the plasma, typically 2.4 MW from E+D port
antennas at 80 MHz (central heating at 5.4 T and off-axis heating at 4.5 T),
and 1.0-1.2 MW from the J port antenna at 78 MZ (off-axis heating aat 5.4T and
central heating at 4.5T). The main reason for this run was to provide target
plasmas for various diagnostics, in particular MSE, toroidal rotation (Hirex
with AR injection) as well as Li pellet injection. Good data was obtained for
all of these diagnostics not only at 5.4 T (shots 4-27), but also at 4.5T near
the end of the run day (shots 28-32). In addition, TAE modes were routinely
observed by both the PCI and magnetic diagnostics. The PCI also detected
strong fluctuations centered at frequencies around 100 kHz, however broader band
than the usual QC mod. The measured wavenumbers were in the range 2-9 cm^-1
with increasing frequencies, respectively. Interesting shots included 5 and 6,
where ELMm-free H modes were obtained during current ramp before sawteeth set in
(typically at 0.31 sec at T_e=5.0 keV) with stored energy of 100-120 kJ,
H=1.5, Beta_N=1.0, Prf=3.2 MW. Shot 6 had 5 repeated H modes, ending with large
ELMS. A power scan showed H modes with large ELMS (shots 25,26, and no ELMs as
the power was lowered to 2.5 MW on shot 27). During the 4.5T run, we observed
very large type-I ELMS (???) which deserve further study (shots 31,32 at
P_rf=3.5-4.0 MW; note that no H mode was obtained at P_rf=2.2 MW, shot 30).
Much data was obtained for further analysis and the APS poster.

Summary
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Machine ran extremely well with startups at both 5.4 and
4.5 T. Small tweaks needed for both EF4 and gas as usual.
The rf systems also ran extremely well, and were able
to provide whatever was asked of them.

Faults:

EF3 breaker pulled before the shot on shot 7.
A gate malfuctioned on shot 30 keeping FMIT3 from running.
