Run summary:

About 20 shots were dedicated to obtain a somewhat desired species mixture to get
mode conversion at the He3-H hybrid layer. After shot 22, hints of correlated flow
is seen, especially in shot 29, 30, 31, and 32. In these shots, the mode conversion
layer is at about R = 0.75 m (mapped to the lower field side) while the X-ray
spectrometer is also viewing at similar location. Later in the run, the flow seemed
to disappear, presumablly because of the variation of special mixture. A B field scan
is done in shot 40 and 41. Shot 41 possibly sees a flow shear when B field is
scanned. We tried to run the fields in shot 42 (5.5 T) and 43 (5.4 T)
at the points with max flow velocity as of shot 41, but the result is inconlusive.

Unfortunately, there is only one spectrometer (#4) working in this run.
If the correlation of the RF power and velocity is real, we won't know whether
it is poloidal flow or toroidal flow.

In general, the experimental result is encouraging.

Power Systems as for 1030710017

A coils in same configuration as on 1030710

Gas setup:

Fill B-Top with 6 psi of D2 hybrid enabled (PG4)
Fill B-side lower with 1 psi Argon Hybrid Disabled (PG1)
Fill B-side upper with 16 psi He3 Hybrid Disabled (PG2)
Fill C-side with 30 psi H2 Hybrid enabled (PG3)

ICRF: All transmitters in Run On by 7:30 AM

Enable the ECE, VUV and DNB gate-valves, assuming no vacuum problems

Z-Bolo shutter should be open for run

Results----------------------------------------------------------------
The machine ran reasonably well. There were some problems with
volt-second consumption during the first few shots. These were corrected
by changing the plasma parameters and increasing the limit on OH2L

The initial shots were inner wall limited. The latter part of the run
was conducted with an SNL equilibrium. There was one outer wall
limited shot during the transition to the SNL equilibrium.

Absence of the ratiomatic for this run may have caused some problems in
that some of the fizzles might have been avoided with shot by shot
monitoring of the pressure prior to breakdown.

He3 was used in this run. The He3 content of the plasma may have been
scanned although there was no diagnostic available for this other than
Zeff and plasma density

During the run, argon puffs were added in addition to the usual one at
0.3 s. By the end of the run, there were 3 puffs, each of 40 ms
duration with no deleterious effect on the plasma.

To start, load shot 1030710026. This has the same equilibrium as the shot requested by the SL. Unlike 1030710017, this shot contains both the final settings from run 1030710 for He3 control as well as the H2 control. Also contains an attempt to remove the current divot that we have been seeing in the late part of the startup.

To start, load shot 1030710026. This has the same equilibrium as the shot requested by the SL. Unlike 1030710017, this shot contains both the final settings from run 1030710 for He3 control as well as the H2 control. Also contains an attempt to remove the current divot that we have been seeing in the late part of the startup.

Make mods in this shot as requested by session leader

Leave argon disabled for the first shot. Then set for 35 to 40 ms as suggested by John.
