| Physics operator summary for run 1031008 (Wednesday): Purpose: Test power supplies; possibly go for plasma Session leader: -- Physics operator: R. Granetz Engineers in charge: W. Cochran/G. Dekow Summary: We got through most of the PF supplies, but data acquisition problems prevented us from finishing up. The OH's, EF1's, EF3, EF4, and EFC supplies are working fine. A problem with charging the cap banks was also discovered. So the power supply tests will have to continue tomorrow. Scorecard: 0 plasmas 0 fizzles 0 duds 21 tests or no-power shot cycles 0 aborted and/or screwed up by computer problems ---------- 21 total ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Engineering setup for Wednesday, 08 Oct 2003 Purpose: Test power supplies; possibly go for plasma. Session leader: -- Physics operator: R. Granetz Engineering operator: W. Cochran/G. Dekow ECDC overnight in D2 at 2e-4 Torr, stopping by 07:00. Bake at 60 C overnight as well. Run begins at 09:00 and ends at 17:00. Power systems the same as on 1030715001 (1.0 MA, 5.4 T, lower single null) Gas setup: fill B-Top with 6 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG4) fill B-side lower with 1 psi Ar Hybrid enabled (PG1) fill B-side upper with 10 psi D2 Hybrid DISABLED (PG2) (for ECDC) fill C-side with 30 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3) Enable the following gate valves, assuming no vacuum problems: none ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RF Setup: no RF today ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Plan: Test the power supplies, mostly under PLC control. Keep an eye on the flywheel bearing vibration. If we get through all the supplies, try for a plasma shot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ECDC was done overnight, as well as a 60 C bake. Hybrid coldstart done by the engineering group; no errors found Loaded PCS from shot 1030715001 (1.0 MA, 5.4 T, nl_04=1.0e20 m-2, single null lower). Simultaneous test of capacitor bank charging had problems. Shot 16 -- EF4, +2 kA. Okay. Most cap banks charged okay too, except for the EF1L bank. Shot 17 -- EFC. It worked, but there were lots of DAQ failures, including much of the EFC instrumentation. Shot 18 -- no power. Test of data acquisition. DAQ works if the crate in the alternator house is taken offline. Shot 19 -- EFC. Higher voltage. Okay. Shot 20 -- EFC. It worked, but again there were lots of DAQ failures, including much of the EFC instrumentation. This might mean the the crate in the alternator house is not the whole problem. Shot 21 -- no power. Another data system test. End of run. |
