Run summary: MP388 part 1
Purpose: vary gas puff in segment 1, plasma shape, puff nitrogen
to figure out whether they can affect plasma performance.
Result: None of these affect the performance.
1: gas puff in segment 1:
At higher gas puff rate, the soft xray signal
in early plasma is significantly lower. However, the
resulted plasma later is no difference.
(compare shot 14 and shot 15)
2. Plasma shape:
shot 10, 11, 12, 13 were trying to run plasmas farther
away from the BN tiles by reduce elongation and/or outer gap.
These changes resulted zero effect.
3. N2 puff. (shot 16-20)
With nitrogen level at about 5 time of the background
level (shot 19), there was still no effect on plasma
performance. Therefore, Nitrogen level (and possibly BN tiles)
may be ruled out as a major culprit of the performance
degradation.
One restraint for today's experiment is that we only had D and E
antennas, and the total rf power was at about 2-2.4 MW level. It would have
be better for the result if more power had been available. Anyhow, the
result made us think harder on the performance issue.
Generally, the plasmas were better than last pre-boronization run
(1040106). Boronization will follow this run (several low density shots
to unload the wall before boronization). The segment 1 gas puff effect
will be checked after the boronization.

fill C-side with 30 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3)

NINJA with 2 psi N2

Enable the following gate valves, assuming no vacuum problems:
ECE, VUV, DNB

Run plan:

Start with 1040209001, run RF. If RF works, run MP388:
Vary gas puff in segment 1 and monitor impurities and plasma
performance.

Summary:

Good run from PO point of view. We started at 11:30 at RF people's request.
Had 24 shots, three data cycles - two at the beginning and one in the middle.
Shot number was not incremented for the cycle, so
there is a good shot #18 and a no shot #18. The last shot was the only fizzle.
Last three shots were low density cleaning shots.
No sturtup changes were necessary - plasma runs very smoothly.
