This run was devoted to calibration of the MSE diagnostic.
It involved firing the neutral beam into the torus filled with
D2 to a pressure of ~1.3 mT, with various toroidal and vertical
fields.

The run went well although we didn't get as many shots as we
would have liked; Some early problems having to do with dif-
ferences in PLC vs hybrid control took 3 shots to resolve. We
decided to use hybrid control in order to use previous settings
for comparison. We did have a planned delay of 30 minutes to
setup for spectra at 6.1 T, and this turned into an hour due
to an access breach. Also there were a few shots where
the beam either didn't fire or the pulse was too short for
good data.In any event, we had 34 shots of which 25 were
useful for calibration purposes.

Physics Operator Comments
Mar 4 2004 09:37:56:287AM1040304001Ron ParkerFirst shot was not setup properly for pulse gas. Repeat next shot.
Mar 4 2004 09:36:34:907AM1040304002Ron ParkerAnother problem, PLC controller was set too low for EF 4 and TF current.

Try again.
Mar 4 2004 09:49:12:477AM1040304003Ron ParkerTF field was slightly too high. The problem we've been having is that there is a
small difference between hybrid and PLC control. Control is now on hybrid and
we should be OK from here on.
Mar 4 2004 10:17:06:580AM1040304004Ron ParkerShot 4 finally got everything right for the first shot of the run plan.

Next shot: no EF, TF at 2.7 T (75 kA)
Mar 4 2004 10:19:16:383AM1040304005Ron ParkerWe're on a roll, shot 5 ran according to the run plan's shot 2.

Moving on to run plan's shot 3. TF = 2.7, EF3 = 1, EF4 = 5.
Mar 4 2004 10:23:57:367AM1040304006Ron ParkerShot 3 on the run plan was run.

Next: shot 4, TF = 2.7, EF3 = 6, EF4 = 5.

Mar 4 2004 10:51:31:780AM1040304008Ron ParkerShot 8 did what it was supposed to, namely shot 5 on runplan.

Moving on to shot 6 on run plan: TF = 5.4, EF3 = 6, EF4 = 5.
Mar 4 2004 11:11:36:747AM1040304009Ron ParkerShot 9 accomplished shot 6 on run plan.

Next: Jump to shot 10 on runplan: TF =5.4, EF3 = 6, EF4 = 5.
Mar 4 2004 11:12:12:950AM1040304010Ron ParkerDNB didn't fire on that shot, so we'll repeat it.
Mar 4 2004 11:24:51:100AM1040304011Ron ParkerWe got shot 10 on the run plan.

Next: shot 9 on the runplan: TF = 5.4, EF3 = 1, EF4 = 5
Mar 4 2004 11:39:20:660AM1040304012Ron ParkerShot 9 on the run plan was accomplished.

Next: shot 7 on the run plan, TF = 5.4, EF3 = 0, EF4 = -5
Mar 4 2004 11:50:10:913AM1040304013Ron ParkerShot 13 did not accomplished run plan's shot 7 as intended since the
beam pulse was too short. We'll do it again.
Mar 4 2004 12:48:58:060PM1040304014Ron ParkerOK, we got run plan's shot 7, now we will run shot 8 on the run plan

TF = 5.4, EF3 = 0, EF4 = 0.
Mar 4 2004 12:32:24:073PM1040304015Ron ParkerShot 8 on the run plan was accomplished.

Nest: Shot 12 on the run plan, TF = 5.4, Ef3 = 0, EF4 = 0.
Mar 4 2004 12:49:44:030PM1040304016Ron ParkerOoops, session leader error, we need to repeat runplan's shot 12.
Mar 4 2004 12:47:47:823PM1040304017Ron ParkerWe got shot 12, moving on to shot 11: TF = 5.4, EF3 = 0, EF4 = -5.
Mar 4 2004 12:58:15:713PM1040304018Ron Parkershot 11 on the run plan was nailed, now move on ot shot 13:

TF = 5.4, EF3 = 1, EF4 = 5
Mar 4 2004 01:12:56:383PM1040304019Ron ParkerWe got shot 13 on the run plan: TF=5.4 T, EF3=1 kA, EF4=5 kA

Next shot: move on to shot 19: same PCS settings as 14, but with different MSE filter temp.
Mar 4 2004 01:38:21:727PM1040304021Ron ParkerWe got shot 19 on the run plan: TF=5.4 T, EF3=6 kA, EF4=5 kA

Next shot: move on to shot 17: TF=5.4 T, EF3=1 kA, EF4=5 kA
Mar 4 2004 02:02:04:537PM1040304022Ron ParkerMDS sequencer failed to init beam...we had to fire it manually. It worked,
sort of. Beam pulse was 27 ms, but we'll take it and move on.

Next shot: move on to shot 16: TF=5.4 T, EF3=0 kA, EF4=0 kA

Try again.
Mar 4 2004 02:38:50:683PM1040304025Ron ParkerWe got shot 15 on the run plan: TF = 5.4, EF3 = 0, EF4 = -5.
