Run Summary

A pretty dull run, as there were no plasmas, only TF and Vertical fields
from EF3 and EF4. A total of 34 "shots" were run, all with TF field at
5.4 T. All but 2 of the planned 30 shots were successfully run, with
the remaining shots used up by power system tests, data system hangups or
beam misfires.In addition to MSE calibration data, He3 gas was injected
at t = -2.5 sec in order to calibrate the He3 pulse gas valve.(Chamber
pressure vs. pulse width). The He3 pressure was at least 2 orders
of magnitude below the D2 fill for MSE calibration, and therefore
did not perturb the MSE calibration.

Engineering Setup and Run Plan 1040422

Purpose: MP#322 MSE Calibration (Cont'd)

Session leaders: Scott and Yuh

Physop: Parker

Engineering Setup:

No ECDC
Power Supplies as on 1040304001
A-Coils will not be used.

Fill B top with 6 psi D2, Hybrid Enabled
leave B-side upper with 15 psi He3 Hybrid enabled

DNB gate valve Enabled
All other diagnostic valves DISABLED

Run Plan

In this run, the diagnostic neutral beam will be fired into the torus
backfilled to a pressure of ~ 1.8 mTorr. Both TF and EF fields will
be energized and the currents scanned as the run proceeds.The TF and
EF field can will be similar to that carried out on 1040304.

Physics Operator Comments
Apr 22 2004 09:01:16:287AM1040422001Ron ParkerFirst shot will be a 50 kA TF test.

There will be a 10 minute delay while a board will be replaced in the TF supply.
Apr 22 2004 09:21:41:670AM1040422001Ron ParkerTF pulse seemed normal. Next shot: Shot 1 on shot plan, EF3 = 0., EF4 = 0.,
TF = 5.4 T.
Apr 22 2004 09:36:01:440AM1040422002Ron ParkerShot 2 ran according to condition for shot A on Shot Schedule. However,
filters were not at correct temperature. We'll repeat this shot after a
slight delay.

Apr 22 2004 10:18:37:393AM1040422003Ron ParkerShot 3 secured shot A on the Shot Schedule.
Apr 22 2004 10:19:41:067AM1040422004Ron ParkerShot 4 went off as programmed (Shot B on Schedule). However, the beam pulse
faulted and this shot will need repeating. Also, there is some question as
to whether the EF3 current reached steady-state. to check this, I'll
move initiation of EF3 back to -0.5 s.
Apr 22 2004 10:33:52:057AM1040422005Ron ParkerShot 5, together with previous shot secures shot B on schedule.

Next: Same shot as 5, but filter tempreature -10. Also, ~15% more gas.
Apr 22 2004 10:47:42:590AM1040422006Ron ParkerShot 6 secured shot C on shot schedule. Pressure was ~ 15 % higher.

Next Shot D on schedule, EF3 = EF4 = 0.
Apr 22 2004 11:45:00:147AM1040422007Ron ParkerShot 7 looked OK. Shot D on Shot Schedule secured.

Next: Condition E on Shot Schedule, EF3 = 9, EF4 =5 kA.
Apr 22 2004 11:12:01:850AM1040422008Ron ParkerShot 8 looked good, the first of three shots with identical conditions.

Next: Identical repeat.
Apr 22 2004 11:30:49:483AM1040422009Ron ParkerShot 9 secured the second shot in the condition E sequence. the next shot
will be the third and final shot in that sequence.
Apr 22 2004 11:44:25:817AM1040422010Ron ParkerShot 10 completed the sequence for condition E in the Shot Schedule.

Next: We'll move on to shot F, EF3 = 0., EF4 = -5.0 kA.
Apr 22 2004 11:57:01:510AM1040422011Ron ParkerCondition F was secured. Next, we'll skip condition G and move on to condition H,
EF3 = EF4 = 0.
Apr 22 2004 12:18:42:783PM1040422012Ron Parker
Shot 12 captured condition H on Shot Schedule. Next: Condition I,
EF3 = 9.0 kA, EF4 = 5.0 kA. There will be a short He3 puff
on this shot at ~ 10 s.
Apr 22 2004 12:33:32:367PM1040422013Ron ParkerShot 13 captured the first shot for condition I.

Next shot will complete this sequence.

No pulse gas (He3) on that shot due to fizzle detector,
moved to 10 sec for next shot.
Apr 22 2004 12:47:01:967PM1040422014Ron ParkerShot 14 captured the second shot in sequence I.

Next: Condition J in shot schedule.
Apr 22 2004 01:05:29:567PM1040422015Ron ParkerShot 15 secured condition J. We'll move on to condition K:
EF3 = 3.0, EF4 = 5.0 kA.

Also, He3 puff moved to -2.5 seconds
Apr 22 2004 01:15:23:540PM1040422016Ron ParkerShot 16 secured condiiton K on Shot Schedule. Next: Condition L,
EF3 = 6, EF4 = 5 kA. He3 puff was 50 ms and resulted in 10-2 T
rise on G-side pressure gauge. The gas pulse was moved to -2.5 sec
to see it before D2 puff. The width for this shot was 30 ms, for the next
shot it will be 20 ms.
Apr 22 2004 01:27:31:560PM1040422017Ron ParkerShot 17 captured condition L on Shot Schedule. Next: Shot M,
EF3 = 12, EF4 = 5 kA. No pressure data on shot 17.

Apr 22 2004 01:50:18:430PM1040422019Ron ParkerShot 19 went OK but no beam. We'll repeat next shot. For this shot,
the helium gas puff was set for 15 ms.

On next shot, still trying for shot condition M on Shot Schedule. The pulse
for the He3 puff will be 10 ms.
Apr 22 2004 02:06:58:123PM1040422020Ron ParkerShot 20 secured condition M on the Shot Schedule.

Next: Shot N, EF3 = 9, EF4 = 5.

Also, He3 pulse gas set for 40 ms.
