| Plan for 15-Mar-2005 MP#355: SL: Wukitch PO: Rowan Overnight ECDC in D2, bake at 60C Power systems as on 1050310026 A-coils must be in standard configuration +Dtop -Dbot -Jtop +Jbot This is the same configuration used on Friday, March 11, 2005 Gas setup: ----------- fill B-Top with 6 psi D2 Hybrid Enabled (PG4) fill B-side lower with 2 psi Ar Hybrid DISabled (PG1) fill B-side upper with 15 psi He3 Hybrid enabled (PG2) fill B-main (former C-side) 30 psi D2, ENabled (PG3) fill lower capillaries (NINJA plenum) 10 psi D2 GV1 closed, Bypass to RGA open Pump values closed in pulse and 5 minutes after shot Enable ECE, Z-bolo shutters (assuming no vacuum problems) --------------------------------------------------------- Plan: We will continue the simple and dull plasma operation for antenna conditioning. We want to obtain as many discharges as possible to plasma condition antennas and will be the focus of the run. J antenna will be at 78 MHz and [0,pi,0,pi] phasing using D(H) minority. Start with vanilla LSN, 5.4 T, Ip=0.8 MA, nl_04=0.8 target discharge (1050310026). Upper null discharges can be run if parties are interested (1050209019 is a good starting point but with lower target density). The aim is to get 1 MW from each for 0.5 sec then combine and maximize injected power limited by coax voltage limits (only have N2 in D and J antenna). Monitor density and impurity evolution for trends with RF power. |

| Run Summary: All antennas operated simultaneously today to reasonably high power (brief 5 MW pulses). As the net power increased, the H/D level increased from a low of ~5% to 15%. We have strong RF interference (primarily J antenna) on power systems (OH2U and L shunts and EF2) and diagnostics and plan to do a survey tomorrow morning to investigate this problem. For long pulse high power operation, further plasma conditioning is required but 1 MW per transmitter appears reasonably reliable at this point. |

| Physop summary for Tuesday, March 15, 2005, run 1050315 MP#355: ICRF Testing and Conditioning SL: Wukitch PO: Rowan The same discharge was run throughout the day as the D, E, and J port antennas were operated for conditioning. (See SL summary). The discharge PCS parameters were copied from 1050310026. A prefill pressure adjustment was made for shots 004 and 005 to increase the prefill to 0.045 mtorr at t=0. Otherwise there were no changes in segment 1. The right gap was adjusted for shot 002. A triangularity adjustment was made in a series of RXU and ZXU changes made for shots 007 through 010. The upper triangularity was changed from 0.22 to 0.3. The SL requested the change to reduce the plasma interaction with D-antenna. This was no apparent change in the video as a result of the triangularity change. The C-coils were turned on at shot 012. There was no reason for turning them on other than it was part of the original run plan. There was one early disruption. Shot 002 disrupted at 0.57 s. The impurity injection showers observed last week were not observed on the video of this shot. Shot 003 was a dud. For the next two shots, the prefill pressure was increased. Shot 004 was full length. Shot 005 had a prefill pressure of 0.045 mTorr at t=0 and that remained constant for the remainder of the day. The segment 1 parameters did not change shot-to-shot after shot 004. Note that the gate valves were not closed during or after the pulse.
