MP 417 (day 3 pre-boronization)

engineering setup: same as 1050330.
Gas setup: D2, Kr and Ne.
Setup ECDC between shots.

Shot sequence (strive to finish part 1 to 5)
1. (6 shots) McPherson survey. constant RF power at 3 MW.
nl = 1.1e20 m-2, 1 MA, 5.4 T. (load 1050330003)
2. (4 shots) Density scan at constant RF power. 3 MW RF, 5.4 T, 1 MA,
nl scan, 0.7, 0.9, 1.1, 1.3e20 m^-2.
3. (3 shots) RF heating hysteresis. 20 ms 1 MW
notch at 40 ms, 70 ms, and 100 ms into the RF pulse. RF power at 3 MW or above.
4. (5 shots) Optimize H-mode. Choose the best parameters from above and repeat.
4a. Puff into H-mode.
4b. Raise Ip to 1.2 MA (ELM free H-mode?)
4c. Vary plasma shape (to be determined).
5. (2 shots) puff Kr into the optimized H-mode. check H-mode degradation.

6. (2 shots) Inner-wall limited plasma. Kr puff, with/without RF, for bolometry.
7. (4 shots) Inner-wall limited plasma. 3 MW RF. 1 MA, Density scan.
nl04 = 0.8, 1.2, 1.6, 2.0, 2.4 e20 m^{-2}.
8. (2 shots) Ne puff, with/without RF, for bolometry. (LSN, 1 MA, 5.4 T, 3 MW RF)
9. (3 shots) puff Kr into upper-null plasmas to check bolometry discrepancy,
geometry effects.
10. (3 shots) ECE cutoff for TS calibration at 4 Tesla.

Total 34 good shots.

Overnight ECDC in D2, bake at 60 C.

Run Begins at 09:00 and ends at 17:00

Power systems as on 1050330025

May use ECDC between shots

A-coils in standard configuration (lock mode suppression)
+Dtop -Dbot -Jtop +Jbot (same as 1050316)

Gas Setup:
fill B-top with 6 psi D2 hybrid enabled (PG4)
fill B-side lower with 2 psi Kr Hybrid disabled (PG1)
leave B-side upper with He3 Hybrid disabled
fill B-main (C-side) with 30 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3)
leave J-bot Hybrid disabled (PG2)

Neon will be used in B-side lower later in the run.


Enable the following:
ECE gate valve, Z-bolo shutters
VUV gate valve

Summary:
Completed part 1 of the plan for McPherson survey. Plasmas are well
reproducible by ECDC 10 minutes between shots. H/(D+H)
starts at about 0.04 then climbs to 0.07 at the end of the RF pulse.
Wmhd is at 120 - 130 kJ level, which gives H factor slightly
above 1 in most shots. Comparing to pre-boronization shot in 1995, e.g.,
951206027, we have similiar stored energy, but at 20% higher RF power
(3.1 MW vs. 2.6 MW).

Partially completed on densiy scan
(No data below nl04 < 1.1e20 m^-2. Shots above this density were basically
the same)

Tried gas puff into H-mode of part 4. Only got one shot (shot 19).
slightly increase, 6 kJ, seen in Wmhd after puff)
