MP355 RF Conditioning

Overnight ECDC in D2, and bake at 60 C.

Run begins at 09:00 and ends at 17:00

Power systems as on 1051103033 (1.0 MA fiducial, 5.4 T, lower single null)

A-coil configuration: normal [+Dtop -Dbot -Jtop +Jbot] and enabled.

Gas Setup:
fill B-Top with 6 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG4)
fill B-side lower with 1 psi Ar Hybrid DISABLED (PG1)
leave B-side upper as is Hybrid DISABLED (PG2)
fill B-main (C-side) with 40 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3)
leave NINJA as is DISABLED

Enable the following gate valves and shutters: ECE, VUV, Z-bolo shutters

Torvac setup: Gate valves open

ICRF Setup: YES

Important Diagnostics: magnetics, standard impurity spectroscopy

Plan: Continue machine cleanup, ICRF conditioning (including Jport).

Run summary:

Despite being early in the campaign, this was a productive run. We
have reconditioned D antenna up to 1.1 MW but it is struggling to
retry when E antenna is at significant power likely result of low
single pass absorption (operation was better early when H fraction was
lower). Despite this difficulty, we had one dischare with ~4 MW
coupled from all antennas. To eliminate the interference between
neighboring antennas, we need to operate them at the same frequency,
decouple the antennas, and control the phase between antennas
(requires new controller). E antenna operated well up to 1.3 MW with
little problem. J antenna reached a maximum of ~3 MW for short pulses
(20 msec) and 2.5 MW for ~0.2 sec. These power levels were reached
without significant impurity injection and the corner tile interaction
appears to be much less (interesting observation).

The machine operated pretty well today. Bz drifted up through the day, and finding the right fill pressure was not easy. The fizzle/plasma ratio seemed to increase as the day went on. H/(H+D) was in the .1 to .2 range most of the day.

There were a few shots with TCI problems, which caused issues with marfes and target density for the RF.

Only 1 shot disrupted today (shot 4).

Shot 7 had a bouncy startup and hard x-rays.

All 3 RF systems were exercised today, with J-port running up to 2.5 MW for reasonable pulses, and 3 MW for short pulses on the last shot of the day (shot 28). There were short h-modes on many shots.

There were no lost shots due to power supply or data acquisition problems.
