Boronization overnight (to R = 103 cm) prior to this run.

(The boronization overnight prior to this run:
Scan resonance from 50 to 95 cm, dwell at 70 cm
100% magnetron duty factor
Follow with 4 hours helium-4 ECDC and as much D_2 ECDC as possible, stopping by 7:30 am.)

ICRF Setup: All transmitters to run-on by 8:30 am.

Important Diagnostics: magnetics, impurity spectroscopy (Mo and Cu),
video monitors for antennas, bolometry, H/D

Goal:
1. Evaluate J-antenna post-boronization. Are the power and voltage handling capabilities compromised? Is it difficult to recover from boronization?
2. Need to check the H-mode quality and also see whether boronization can reduce the Cu impurities from J-antenna.
3. Can we get good performance plasmas at high power: at 1 MW plasma current, 175 kJ at 3 MW, 215 kJ at 4 MW and > 250 kJ at 5 MW? (First chance to set a new record since 1050422!)

Plan:
1. Run fiducial discharge (1 MA, 5.2 T, nel=0.9e20 m^-2) until all
antennas are fully recovered from boronization (~ 1.5 MW per transmitter).
2. H-mode threshold comparison. Ramp-up to 2.5 MW, then flat.
3. H-mode quality comparison at different power levels: 2, 2.5 and 3 MW.
4. If all antennas work well, and Prad is small, run a couple of shots with all antennas together (up to 5 MW), and see how much Wtot we can get.
5. Antenna comparison at different currents (0.6, 0.8, and 1.2 MA), Prf at 2 MW.
6. Antenna comparison at different outer gaps (0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 cm). Prf slow ramp-up to 2 MW.
7. Antenna comparison at different densities (nl = 0.7, 0.9, 1.1 and 1.3 e20m^-2). Prf at 2 MW.
8. If time allows, we will run USN plasmas.

Gas setup:
fill B-Top with 6 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG4)
fill B-side lower with 1 psi Ar + 2 psi Ne Hybrid DISABLED (PG1)
leave B-side upper as is Hybrid DISABLED (PG2)
fill B-main with 40 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3)
fill NINJA with 10 psi D2 Leave DISABLED
Enable Z-bolo shutter
Enable ECE, VUV gate valves assuming no vacuum problems
Do not enable DNB gate valve at the beginning of the day.

We will want both TMP#1 and TMP#2 gate valves open for pulses.

Boronization recovery: D and E antennas were recovered from boronization as usual (took ~7 shots back to 1.5 MW per transmitter). J antenna was much slower. (Note the boronization was only done to R = 95 cm instead of 103 cm called for by the original plan). It cannot stay for long at > 2 MW the whole day. It ran better later in the day, but the boron layer was also worn out later in the day. The experience suggests that we may have to limit the R range of boronization in the future to have less boron deposited to the J-antenna.

Neutral pressure limit: One of the parameter that was limiting J antenna operation is the lower neutral pressure threshold than last campaign. This antenna could not start at P > 0.2 mTorr (f-side neutral pressure) for 1 MA plasmas today. The limit was at 0.3 mTorr or above in previous campaigns with Faraday screen. Note 0.2 mTorr is almost always reached later in the nl > 0.8-1.0 e20m^-2 and 1 MA discharges. This lowered threshold was seriously limiting the usefulness of J-antenna in standard EDA H-modes.

Plasma-antenna interaction: In some early shots (e.g., 12 and 13), plasma interaction on strap #3 near the gap of the ground bridge was observed. Similar interaction was observed on Strap #1 last week, but not today. The antenna became quiet as seen by the J-antenna camera view later in the day.

Impurity level: Ti was observed on some shots associated with D-antenna. Mo was there for all antenans. Cu was also observed with all antennas. Cu level was up with higher J-antenna power. However, it was also present and at a level not small when D and E was on. (Cu was observed yesterday with Ohmic run also). Apparently, the copper that was only seen when J-antenna was powered a couple weeks ago is now all around the machine. Boronization didn't reduce its level effectively.

H-mode quality: the comparison was done only at 2 MW level since J-antenna was not able to sustain at above 2 MW. Moreover, since J-antenna was limited by the neutral pressure later in the discharges, we were only able compare with D and E at different shots. The finding is about the same as what we knew pre-boronization. The stored energy was lower by ~10% at the same power at 1 MA. Comparison at 1.2 MA and 0.8 MA was inconclusive because faults in J-antenna.

Positive news: It is the first run day in this campaign without any transmitter problems/glitches.
