MP#298a C-Mod Startup (reverse field edition) SL: Wolfe PO: Rowan Power system tests will be run in the morning. Monitor magnetics signals and bus rog currents to verify that the coils are all hooked up correctly. Bill and Gary (or whoever is in the EO chair) will be responsible for this part of the run. They may want the physop to draw some waveforms, but it will be mostly PLC control I think. For the plasma part of the day: Start from a standard normal field shot, 1060505001 (1MA, 5.4T, LSN, nl04=8e19), and let PO flip appropriate waveforms. The main issue is getting a startup. Once that's done, let the RF do some target practice, while we check that the shape is doing the right thing. It will probably be a good idea to verify that the A-coil is doing the right thing too. I've asked that the leads be reversed, so the patch panel should be [-Dtop ,+Dbot, +Jtop, -Jbot], which I think is the correct thing to do. Need to verify that, once the B21_PROJ alg is re-called, it drives the right coil current and that this is doing the right thing. If things go really well, get a head start on Brian's MP#409 run scheduled for Wed. If things go badly, continue startup studies on Wednesday. |

| Engineering setup for Tuesday 16 May 2006
Purpose: Power system tests then MP#298 C-Mod Startup (reverse field) As time permits, we will attempt to setup the discharge for Wednesday's run. The proposed setup is 1060324005 (0.8MA, 5.4T, LSN) on segment 2 and 1060324002 (USN) on segment 3. SL: Wolfe PO: Rowan Overnight ECDC in deuterium; bake at 60 C. The run will start at 09:00 and end at 17:00. Power system tests Operate the supplies under PLC control to assure that coils are hooked up properly MP#298 C-Mod Startup (reverse field) Power systems as on 1060505001 (1MA, 5.4T, LSN, nl04=8e19) Modify appropriate waveforms in PCS with FLIP operation. A-coil configuration: reversed normal [-Dtop +Dbot +Jtop -Jbot] and enabled. Gas Setup: fill B-Top with 6 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG4) fill B-side lower with 1 psi Ar + 2 psi Ne Hybrid DISABLED (PG1) leave B-side upper as is Hybrid DISABLED (PG2) fill B-main (C-side) with 40 psi D2 Hybrid enabled (PG3) leave NINJA as is DISABLED Enable the following gate valves and shutters, assuming no vacuum problems: ECE, VUV, Z-bolo shutters Torvac setup: Gate valves open |

| There was no run today. Alternator problems. The problems were thought to be understood by noon. Repair and test would require the remainder of the day so the run was cancelled. Repairs will continue, of course. |

DELAY IN START OF RUN There will be a delay of approximately 2 hours to resolve alternator problems. Stay tuned. This could change.
| May 16 2006 08:45:08:893AM | Bill Rowan | Recalcuated the predictors for B21_PROJ
Checked the tap settings in the Alg. Version field on the Edit Wire screen and they agreed with the intended setup.
| May 16 2006 11:14:44:257AM | Bill Rowan | DELAY IN START OF RUN (CONTINUED)
From Jim: We will receive an update at noon. That would be followed by a couple of hours to debug and test, followed by 3 hours of startup time.
| May 16 2006 12:03:51:647PM | Bill Rowan | NO RUN TODAY
The alternator problem is diagnosed. Repair and test will require the remainder of the day.
