Physop plan for 1070312
-----------------------
Power System tests possibly followed by
MP465 WASP setup activities (pre-plasma tests only)
MP298a C-Mod Startup

The main purpose of this run is Engineering Power System tests. Most testing
will be carried out under PLC control. DPCS will optionally be used to perform
double swing test of the EF4 supply and provide input for the Chopper (EFC)
system. Gas puff tests will also be carried out under DPCS control, as allowed
by the Engineering Operator.

Gas Setup:
----------

fill B-top 6psi D2 Hybrid Disabled (PG4)
fill B-side lower 1 psi Argon Hybrid Disabled (PG1)
fill B-side Upper as is, Hybrid Disabled (PG2)
fill B-main 40psi D2 Hybrid Disabled (PG3)
NINJA pumped out, Disabled
* Valves will be Enabled for testing during the course of the day.

Shot sequence for the power system testing will be determined by the
Engineering operator. Additional TF tests are requested prior to plasma
operation for verification of the correct bias current sign for the inner wall
WASP probe (MP#465). Session Leader for these shots will be either
B. LaBombard or N. Smick. There will likely be a cell access and 30 minute
delay during these tests to change a driver from A-port WASP to K-port WASP.

If we get to it, we will attempt to begin plasma operation under the
long-standing MP#298a "C-Mod Startup".
The following engineering setup should be used:
********************************************************************
Power Systems as on 1060613015
Acoil Configuration +Dtop -Dbot -Jtop +Jbot, Enabled
Check on TF invert time relative to back-porch programming (see Irby)

Gas setup as above, except ENABLE B-top and B-main.

TORVAC: Pumping Gate valves open

Enable the following gate valves and shutters, assuming no vacuum problems:
ECE, Z-bolo
Check with Terry and/or Reinke before opening VUV

ICRF setup: None
********************************************************************

Physop plan for power tests:
----------------------------
Draw gas and p.s. waveforms as requested.

Verify magnetics signals and DPCS inputs; special attention to f11 flux loop.
Look for current in cryopump hardware near EF1 pocket on commutation tests
(probably hard to see until we try for a null though, maybe not then).

Physop plan for MP#298a:
------------------------
Load from 1060613015 (first shot after last field reversal to normal
direction, LSN, 5.4T). Probably get a dpcs config warning - verify dpcs_fizzle
source shot for normal current direction (1060308026).

Reduce Ip from 1MA to 800kA, change NL04 from 9e19 to 6e19 (assuming TCI is
working); if TCI not working, then turn off NL04 feedback and set
Segment 2 pre-programmed PG3 to zero volts, after an initial puff.

Tune startup as required, try for plasma shots to clean up machine. Consider
lower Ip target (600kA) depending on results.

Not much was accomplished today. Essentially the whole day was spent
trying to get the Access Control to function. As of 17:00, this was still
not successful. There are at least two
issues. Some values need to be forced in order to put the cell into SEARCH
mode, and after the SEARCH it was not possible to place the Cell into
SECURE access. It is possible to place the power room into SECURE mode
after the search, but after that it is not possible to place it into
CONTROLLED or SEARCH; the only state transition that the power room
will accept from SECURE is to FREE.
The diagnostic labs access control seems to be working. We did not attempt
to simulate a breach however.
Finally, the big_board replacement display echoes all
the access states except for FREE incorrectly: SEARCH (state 2) shows up as
SECURE, SECURE (state 3) shows as CONTROL, and CONTROL (state 4) shows as
SEARCH. This is independent of the other problem and seems to just be an issue
of translation in the big board display.

We took three test shots, one just for data system checkout, and two gas
tests, of pg4 (pre-puff) and pg3 (main fueling). PG4 seems to be working
ok, with 20msec puff giving a ratiomatic reading of 0.1mTorr. A short pg3 puff
in segment 1 did not produce a visible change on the ratiomatic, but a
100msec long, 100V puff in seg 2 gave a reading of 3mTorr. Probably the valve
needs exercising. We did not test pg1 (argon puff) or pg2 (He3).

Tom fixed a setup issue with the alternator analysis routines in the dispatch
cycle after the first test shot, and these ran correctly on shots 2 and 3.

There is still a problem with the Physop READY bit. This is getting correctly
set back to "HOLD" during Check, but on the Pulse->Recool transition it
reverts to "READY", so it is not operative (i.e. the permissive is always on)
for the next shot. Yuri and Joe should work on fixing that after they get
the Access Control bugs worked out.

The CAMAC crate in the Active MHD rack has a bad power supply, and was bypassed
to enable the TCI and other signals on that highway to operate. Dave B. will
replace the supply before tomorrow's run.

Cooling seemed to be functioning well. The alternator was a little slow getting
up to speed in the morning, but since we never needed it this wasn't an issue.
They were allowed to start shutting down at 16:00, when it was apparent that
we weren't going to get to testing any of the 13.8kV supplies.

Bring up PCS before run.
Setup in segs 1 and 2 are "TF Scanner, gas test"
from last Monday (Irby). May as well leave them for now.
Do a load/noclean just to test. This is the first load since
the changeover to Daylight time.

Status update: As of 13:00, they are still working on the access control
system, which is not allowing the cell to be placed in secure state.

Note that the big board display for access is not showing the correct
states, other than for FREE. That is not the main problem however.

Shot#1: Data system cycle only. They are still working on access control.
Cycle ran through. The PHYSOP Ready display did not get put back to Hold.
This is supposed to happen in CHECK or INIT I think. I asked to have it
fixed last week.

Looks like the fizzle detector is still coming in late at 1.7sec
Jim reports not getting alternator data.

Mar 12 2007 03:18:16:947PM1070312001Steve Wolfe
The fizzle detector on shot 1 seems to have been set at [.08,1.8],
as it was on shot 2. However, the dpcs outputs don't look right.
That's because I was looking at the wrong traces. Somehow my Mout
scope was looking at a test shot from last week.

When I put the right shot in, it shows the f.d. coming in at the
right time.

Shot#2: Change PG4 pulse to 20msec in seg1, zero PG3 in seg1, leave as is
in seg2.

We are set up for a gas test on pg4 and pg3.
We will be making another attempt to lock up through access control.

Mar 12 2007 03:00:30:990PM1070312002Steve Wolfe
Shot#2: Gas test. Access still not working.
This time the physop bit went back to HOLD in check.
Maybe it was bypassed the first time?
Got gas/
And the Physop ready goes back to READY! That's what happened.
Fizzle detector seems to have been at 0.08 this time. Gary
says he didn't write it.

Ratiomatic is off, but I saw the pressure go to the high six range.
Gary says the alternator analysis jobs worked this time.

Mar 12 2007 03:51:31:760PM1070312003Steve Wolfe
Shot#3: Put a short pg3 puff in seg1 (if we ever get another cycle.)
Another gas test, still no access control.

Got gas. Gary had moved the f.d. back out to 1.7sec this time, so
we got both puffs. Actually, it doesn't look like the pressure responded
to the one in seg1. Valve may need exercising.
The pre-puff ends up with a fill of .1mTorr with a 20msec puff.
