Start with plasma conditions from 1070330004.

Pulse LH at .7sec. Phase shifters set for 90deg current drive. Six segment pulse
(10 ms @ 25% duty cycle), phasing at 60, 90, 120 repeated twice during shot. 20kW
per klystron. Disable CPS. Launcher 1.5mm behind limiter.

1) Set NINJA to 12psi, programmed to hit at .8 sec (just after first three LH
pulses). Adjust NINJA pressure up/down to set edge density to ~1e18 m^-3 on LH
probes.
2) Increase outer gap by 10mm.
3) Increase outer gap by additional 10mm.

ECDC overnight in D2, pressure=2e-4 Torr.  Rmin/Rdwell/Rmax = 44/45/103 cm.
Bake at 60 C.

The run will start at 09:00 and end at 17:00.

Power systems as on 1070330008

A-coil configuration: normal [Dtop -Dbot -Jtop +Jbot] and enabled.

Gas Setup:
   fill B-Top            with  6 psi D2  Hybrid enabled  (PG4)
   fill B-side lower     with  1 psi Ar  Hybrid DISABLED (PG1)
  leave B-side upper     as is           Hybrid DISABLED (PG2)   
   fill B-main (C-side)  with 40 psi D2  Hybrid enabled  (PG3)
  leave NINJA as is      with 20 psi D2  DISABLED

Enable the following gate valves and shutters, assuming no vacuum problems:
  ECE, VUV, Z-bolo shutters
 
Torvac setup: Gate valves open during pulse.

Shots 1-5 were NINJA puffing experiments for MP464. We discovered that, as expected, we cannot raise the density enough in front of the LH grill to improve coupling without a drastic increase in line averaged density. Also as expected, the effect of gas puffing was strongest on the top of the LH grill, which is magnetically connected to the gas injection system on the midplane between A and B ports.

Randy Wilson took over as SL for MP473 for shots 6-26.

Shots 6-16 were LH during rampup. Initially high density during rampup helped with coupling, but drop in density later in the pulse caused reflections to increase until power tripped out. Interesting "event" caused loss of fast electrons (and current drive) near beginning of high power pulses.

Shots 18-27 were investigating joint operation of LH and ICRF. Initial results show that operation with D port is more difficult than J port, presumably because C and D ports are well connected magneticly.

Randy left at 4pm and I took over again as SL. Shots 29 and 30 were ohmic H modes at 6T. Coupling was better than ICRF H-modes.

Shots 31 and 32 were an attempt at a steady LH pulse for MSE to measure. The LH didn't fire but MSE did get good data.

The machine ran very well today. We mostly ran similar shots in the shape previously developed to match the LH limiters. We fiddled with the outer gap, ending up at about 4 mm. Both LHRF and ICRF were used on most shots, with many H-modes (none with great confinement). Hydrogen fraction increased over the day, peaking around shot 15-20 at 25% to 30%. MSE was attempting measurements today, and the DNB fired on almost all shots.

There were a few shots with start-up induced hard x-rays; increasing the prefill puff might have helped. There were a number of interesting shots with early LH (starting at 0.1 seconds); these generally had a lot of hard x-rays during and after the lower hybrid pulse(s). Shot 9 is an excellent example.

Near the end of the day, the SL wanted to try ohmic H-modes, to test LH coupling in H-mode without ICRF. We reloaded 10704016013 (6 Tesla, high elongation) for shot 29, and got the same steady ohmic H-mode as on the target shot. Shot 30 was similar, with zcur moved down 5 mm.

The new high resolution x-ray spectrometer was installed last night (Swiss detectors) and got data from the first shot.
