MP#489 "Damping rate of TAEs near stability threshold with ICRF fast ions" Goal **** Observe the stability of moderate n (~6-14) TAEs relative to the ICRF generated ion tail temperature as the ICRF power is successively increased. This experiment was preliminarily investigated on 1060526 under MP#404a, and will be resumed now with an improved set of magnetic field probes. Run Preparation *************** * Prepare argon for HIREX * Setup GPC2 gratings for 5.8~6.0 T * Enable the dpcs_ftae2 procedure in DPCS (see Wolfe email of 1070601) * Turn on Active MHD and set qAE to 1.5, AE_order to 2 * Allow boron dust puffing Run Plan ******** Reload equilibrium from 1060526032 but with negative field and current. Shot Plan ********* Begin by reproducing results from 1060526; look for stable TAEs throughout RF heating phase. Then increase Bt to move ICRF off axis but maintain sufficient heating (watch ECE temp and neutron rate, CNPA if available). Run Picrf=2MW during 0.75-1.5s 001 Field = -5.4T, Ip=-0.8MA, NL04=0.7e20 002 Set field to -5.7T, Ip=-0.6MA, NL04=0.7e20 003 -5.9T 004 -6.1T At highest field that maintains sufficient heating, step RF power by 0.5MW every shot up to max available power. As time allows, repeat highest power shot, then decrease by 0.5MW every shot to repeat conditions. Run RF during 0.75-1.5s at the following powers: 005 0MW 006 0.5MW 007 1.0MW 008 1.5MW 009 2.0MW 010 2.5MW 011 3.0MW? 012 3.0MW 013 2.5MW |
