| We will essentially repeat the density and topology scan carried out in MP 480 but with reversed field. These will be standard 0.8 MA, 5.4 T L-Mode discharges in upper single null, lower single null and double null topologies. The density will be scanned over the range of 0.4-1.4x10^20 since flow velocities have been observed to vary with n/nG. This expanded density range makes contact with the entire space explored in previous campaigns, and fills in new points in the reversed-field case.
Toroidal Field: 5.4 T Plasma Current: 0.8 MA Working Gas Species: D2 Density: 0.4 - 1.4 x10^20 Use the following reference equilibria: 1070627005 (LSN) 1070627011 (USN) 1070627021 (DN). Auxiliary Systems RF: none Li Pellet Injection allowed at the end of some shots DNB as necessary for CXRS NINJA puffing as necessary for CXRS, Argon as necessary for HIREX Desired Diagnostics: WASP, FSP and ASP scanning probes, Divertor Probe arrays, HIREX Sr., CXRS Shot sequence plan: All shots 0.8 MA 5.3 Tesla The shot sequence is carried out in an order that takes the most important data first to reduce the impact of a failure of one of the probes. There are extra shots at low density for targeting and fluctuation mode plunges. Shots #1-4 NL04=0.4 x1020m-2, LSN Reference Shot: 1070627005 Shots #5-8 NL04=0.4x1020m-2, USN Reference Shot: 1070627011 Shot #9 NL04=0.6x1020m-2, USN Shots #10-11 NL04=0.8x1020m-2, USN Shots #12-13 NL04=0.6x1020m-2, LSN Shots #14-15 NL04=0.8x1020m-2, LSN Shot #16 NL04=1.0x1020m-2, LSN Shot #17 NL04=1.2x1020m-2, LSN Shot #18 NL04=1.4x1020m-2, LSN Shots #19-20 NL04=1.0x1020m-2, USN Shot #21 NL04=1.2x1020m-2, USN Shot #22 NL04=1.4x1020m-2, USN Move to balanced Double Null and repeat density scan Shots #23-25 NL04=0.4x1020m-2, DN Shots #26-27 NL04=0.9x1020m-2, DN Shots #28-29 NL04=1.4x1020m-2, DN |

| We started the day with a 3 hour delay due to a damaged EFC contactor. After that we had 24 shots including 18 plasmas, 5 fizzles and a power-test. We did a rushed density scan, rarely pausing for more than one shot a given configuration and collected resonable data in 10 configurations: NL04~0.4,0.6,0.8,1.0 and 1.2 e20 m-2 in both USN and LSN. We did not get any double nulls and we did not take any fluctuation data. The probe plunges were not optimized as well as we would have liked for a few shots, but we pressed on making sure to cover the whole scan.
Because of recent damage to the K-WASP, the A-WASP was used for the first time since startup. It had been benched due to an intermittent open circuit on the SE electrode. This was evident again at the beginning of the run. Strangely enough, the SE electrode miraculously got better, but then the SW electrode started failing in the same manner. Later on, the SW got better but the NE started failing. For most of the day we had at least three electrodes working well, which is enough (in theory) to deduce the total flow vector. However, near the end of the day (shots 21 and 23) we were losing two electrodes, (NE and SE) which will significantly effect our ability to interpret the data. Despite the problems, we believe we more or less accomplished the goals of MP 510. |

| We started out by loading 1070627005, an SNL discharge that had been carefully tuned up for the probe scans, but in normal field and current. I followed Steve's 1070717 prescription for flipping the DPCS signals, and the first plasma attempt (shot 02) ran well with good targeting for the probes. Shot 1070627011 was equally good for SNU discharges.
problems: When doing the startup this morning the EFC contactor was found still closed. The contacts had been damaged and the soft start resistors were found to be burned out and carbonized. It took until nearly noontime to repair. Shot 01 was a test shot to verify proper operation of the supply. We had nothing but plasmas until shot 15. Then we began the fizzle, plasma, fizzle toggle. As usual it was not at all clear what caused this problem. Adjustments to Bz0 and fill pressure were made, but probably had no effect on the startup. OH2_L crowbarred on shot 25 and we lost the plasma around 0.5 s. score: efc test 01 fizzles 15,18,20,22,24 plasmas 02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09,10,11 12,13,14,16,17,19,21,23,25 |
