| SL Plan
Start with 1071212029 (0.8 MA, 5.4 T, 1.0e20m-2, upper single null) Continue where we left off yesterday with the cryopump controlling the H/D to ~10%; overlapping D and E antenna to test fft operation; and condition the antennas and machine. We also will investigate the limits on J antenna. 1. Overlap D and E antenna to condition antennas and limits of FFTs in USN discharges. J antenna will be operated separately to establish its limits. The LH will be injecting power as well but will need to monitor impurity injections. 2. Time permitting we will investigate LSN discharges to condition other surfaces. | Run Summary
Although the shot total was limited by a number of issues (see below), D and E antennas were operated up to 1.5 MW simultaneously in USN discharges. With the cryopump on, the H/D was managed relatively well, was rising to 15% during a pulse and starting near 10%, and we obtained reasonable heating with 4 MW total power. The FFT performance was reasonable but there appears to be a power level at which the solution is off significantly. We are still investigating whether this is a control problem or hardware feature. J antenna is still lagging behind the D and E in terms of conditioning and our next step is to measure the RH of the 6" coax lines and modify the telfon spacers to allow for more effective pumping and purging. An interesting observation is that the density in front of the LH coupler changed dramaticly between 011 and 012. Discharge 011 is USN, 0.8 MA and 012 is LSN, 1.0 MA. The H/D is ~12% in 011 and ~14% in 012 which will not significantly change the single pass absorption. We will have to look into this a bit because it will partially explain why ICRF operation is relatively more successful at injecting high power in USN compared to LSN. |

| The run consisted of 16 shots in LSN and USN configurations. The shot rate was limited by problems with thermocouple instrumentation, EF3 power supply, and ICRF fault instrumentation.
Shot 1071212029 was loaded as the model for USN operation. Shot 1071212013 was loaded as the model for LSN operation. Plasmas breakdown and current rise were reliable. The breakdown fields were not adjusted at all during the day. Only the prefill was adjusted to provide appropriate pressure with and without the cryopump. The cryopump operated on all 14 shots on which it was requested.
