We will use the PCI high-k configuration to study turbulence and transport in low density ohmic plasmas where the thermal energy is mainly lost through the electron channel.

Diagnostics:
PCI will be configured to monitor short wavelength turbulence (k_R up to 60 cm^-1).
TCI, ECE, GPC, TS, and other standard diagnostics for ne/Te and Ti(0) are required.
HIREX is required for both Ti and rotation profiles.

Shot Plan:
All plasmas will be at B = 5.2 T and Ip = 0.8 MA. There will be NO ICRF/LH/DNB/Cryopump.
1. Load and duplicate 1070713009
2. Scan nel_04 from 0.6x10^20 to 0.2x10^20 m-2 with step 0.1x10^20 m-2. Each shot will be repeated 5 times for the different PCI configuration. Total 25 clean and steady ohmic plasmas are expected.

*Requested by J. Terry and I. Cziegler, Ninja puff after 1.4 sec will be allowed as long as it does not cause any trouble in lowering density in the following shot.

Overnight ECDC in D2 and bake at 60 C.

Run will start at 09:00 and end at 17:00.

Power systems as on 1070713009 (0.8 MA, 5.2 T, lower null)

A-coil configuration: +Dtop -Dbot -Jtop +Jbot; Enabled (standard
configuration)

Gas Setup:
   fill B-Top            with  6 psi D2  Hybrid enabled  (PG4)
   fill B-side lower     with  1 psi Ar  Hybrid DISABLED (PG1)
  leave B-side upper     as is           Hybrid DISABLED (PG2)   
   fill B-main (C-side)  with 40 psi D2  Hybrid enabled  (PG3)
   fill NINJA            with  7 psi D2  DISABLED

Enable the following gate valves and shutters, assuming no vacuum problems:
  ECE, VUV, Z-bolo
 
Torvac setup: keep gate valves open during PULSE

Specific diagnostics: PCI (configure to monitor short wavelengths), TCI,
ECE, GPC, TS, HIREX for both Ti and rotation profiles.

Summary:

We got the discharges we desired. At B = 5.2 T and 0.8 MA, the nl_04 was scanned from ~0.18 to ~0.76 e20 m-2, which covers both "linear" and "saturated" ohmic regimes. The major fluctuation diagnostic PCI worked well today and the measurements will be analyzed in detail. Hirex also worked well to provide the ion temperature profiles for gyrokinetic simulation and transport analysis. In general, it was a great run day. Thank you all.

The machine ran extremely well today with these low density ohmic plasmas.
We were able to get down to densities as low as nl_04=0.18e20 m-2, although
these lowest density shots had lots of hard x-rays coming up later in the
shot.

The start of the run was delayed by about a half-hour to do some test shots
to check out some possible issues with DPCS after yesterday's work on it.
Some loose connectors were found, and corrected.
