| 1. Using standard discharge (1090724005 LSN), we will
resume J antenna operation. We will run J separate from D and E antennas and begin with low power pulses. After evaluating the state of J antenna from an operational standpoint, we will seek to increase the power to 2 MW. 2. Discharge target is 1 MA, 5.4 T with moderate shaping and 1 cm outer gap. If time permits we will change plasma current and density to condition the antenna and other surfaces. 3. If needed we will switch to USN, like 1090724029, in deuterium with nl04~0.8 |

| After an initial issue with FMIT#3 PLC, J antenna was operated into
plasma up to 3 MW where the discharges were largely L-mode with brief H-modes. After some high power pulses, a combination of PLC false control issues and degradation of the voltage and power handling (019) limited the performance of J antenna. In addition to the PLC, we are concerned about the transmission line humidity. Despite this setback, the antennas were stacked to 4 MW. PLC faults were causing the FMIT#3 to have false trips after 019 but by-passed for 025. From shot 021, FMIT#3 and #4 were operating without fault sync because the PLC was switching the gate from closed to open. We by-passed the PLC for 026 but struggles continued because the DIO2 channel that supplies the gate was hung. After further analysis, we realized the PLC was also flipping the phase controller for J antenna at random and causing the system to fault. To add insult to injury, the H/H+D climbed from 6% on 001 to 25% by 010 and did not appear to fall (RF pickup on diagnostics remained high where on 001 it was low). The antennas were also still evolving significant density with each high power pulse. |

| RF conditioning run went smoothly from the physop viewpoint once the
cabinet doors on the EF2 PLC were closed, avoiding the RF pickup taking spurious control of EF2.

Lower gain on ICEF4 in segment 2 ater .25s. It appears to be forcing up the EF2s. |

Increase ICEF4 at .4s. Increase early Clearin. Load |
| Jul 28 2009 11:05:04:727AM | 1090728005 | Ian Hutchinson | Plasma to rampdown.
Clearin to .001. EF1 crowbars to .12s. Zcur in segment 2 at segment switch is set to -1.5cm. This is a big mistake and causes a lurch on the position that nearly rails the EFC. Change that to start at zero at 0.1s and ramp to -1.5cm at .135s. |
| Jul 28 2009 10:53:23:097AM | 1090728006 | Ian Hutchinson | Plasma to rampdown.
Very nice early diversion at .13s. We got rid of the lurch at segment switch but zcur still has a noticeable excursion at crowbar. No changes. |

| Jul 28 2009 11:42:56:990AM | 1090728009 | Ian Hutchinson | Disrupts at .67s.
Find that there is RF pickup on the controls to EF2s for this shot and shot 7. This interference appears to be the cause of the disruptions. It starts on EF2U bus voltage at .668s. It is reported that the doors were ajar on the EF2 TMX PLC cabinet (close to the RF). Have a shot with the doors closed. Then we'll go in and fix. |
