Scan fields: 5.6T 5.4T 5.3T 5.0T 4.5T 4.2T 4.1T 4.0T 3.9T Return to 4.5T and try to make ITBs with avalable power at 80Mhz The first part of the run, the B-field scan described in 521a, went very well. We were able to complete the field scan with ITBs forming with the off-axis resonance at r/a >0.5 on both low and high field sides. Good ITB shots where 05, 07, 15, 16, 18 19. After that we began trying to get a good ITB with 80 Mhz off axis, but without success for the balance of the run. Various combinations of rf power, plasma density, and strike point were tried, but we were unable to get a sustained H-mode. 1100323001 RF not steady. Possible short H-modes. We'll take a second try. 1100323002 Several H-modes, with slight density peaking on the first one. We'll increase the current to 900 kA, and the density to 9 x 10^19 on nl_04 before the rf. 1100323003 Several H-modes, with slight density peaking on the second one. We'll repeat 1100323004 No good. The plasma never gets above 60 kA 1100323005 Nice ITB, very long lasting. Begin field scan by going to 5.4 T 1100323006 5.4 T Several back transitions, tungsten injections. We'll try to repeat the shot to get a steady EDA. 1100323007 Nice steady EDA H-mode, slight peaking, as hoped for at this field. The next shot will be at 5.3 T 1100323008 The second EDA H-mode is steady, peaking is not obvious. Continue scan to 5.0 T 1100323009 The second EDA H-mode is steady, no peaking. Continue scan to 4.6 T 1100323010 No EDA on this one. Repeat with Ip=0.8 MA 1100323011 No steady EDA on this one. Repeat to try and get a good EDA 1100323012 Three H-modes. Continue scan to 4.2 T 1100323013 Three H-modes. Possible peaking on first one. Repeat, with slight increase in argon 1100323014 Three H-modes. Less evidence of peaking. Lower field to 4.1 T 1100323015 Nice ITB. Continue field scan. Lower field to 4. T 1100323016 Very nice ITB. Try to repeat. 1100323017 No power shot. No plasma. No H-mode. No ITB. 1100323018 Good ITB before disruption. Go to 3.9 T. 1100323019 Late H-mode with likely ITB. Repeat. 1100323020 Early h-mode that doesn't last. Time to move on. Next shot, locked mode for HIREX callibration. 1100323021 This was supposed to be a locked mode for HIREX, but it disrupted. We'll try again. 1100323022 No power. 1100323023 Successful locked mode shot. We're going to the second phase of the run plan and developing ITBs at 4.5 T with 80 Mhz off-axis heating. 1100323024 Late H-mode with possible ITB starting. Not quite as much rf power as we wanted. We'll try again. 1100323025 Late H-mode with possible ITB starting. We got the requested rf power. We'll try to put a little J-port power at the beginning of the rf to try and kick it into an earlier H-mode. 1100323026 Early and late H-modes with possible ITB starting. I've asked for D and E up to 3MW next shot. 1100323027 Early and late H-modes with possible ITB starting. At Matt R's suggestion, we are changing the strike point down slightly. 1100323028 It went into H-mode, then immediately disrupted. Okay, so maybe it wasn't an H-mode. 1100323029 Multiple H-modes with back transitions. We are going to try lowering th rf power to 2.5 MW. 1100323030 Late H-mode. Try raising the target density to 1.0 x 10^20 nl_04. 1100323031 D and E did not fire. Thus, no H-mode. 1100323032 E did not fire. It went into H-mode and then dropped out immediately. E is not working for some reason. For the last shot of the day, we'll try it with as much power as possible out of D. 1100323033 Short H-mode, not enough power at 80 Mhz to sustain it. |
