We continued trying to clean up the machine today. We had many fizzles and a few plasmas lasting from 70 to 250 ms, with plasma currents from 130 kA to 600 kA. The plasma discharges certainly helped clean up the walls, but also resulted in many fizzles before the next short plasma. The first shot of the day was a PLC controlled OH1 test to make sure the magnetics isolation amplifier was working properly. The first plasma, attempt, shot 02, resulted in a 126 ms, 400 kA plasma. A few tweaks were made to prefill, Br0, and Bz0 during the day, which may have helped, but the dirty condition of the machine was the main problem. Shot 19 lasted about 250 ms and had about 600 kA plasma current. The RGA showed a large rise in all the primary lines which did not return to pre shot 19 levels the rest of the run. We ran ECDC about 30 minutes between shot 26 and 27 with one of the better plasmas of the day being produced on 27 (240 ms, 428 kA). The RGA indicated rapid drops in major impurity lines during the ECDC, and only one fizzle occurred before we had another plasma, so the ECDC may have been useful. Problems: . EF2 supply misbehaved on shot 07 . EF1 failed to commutate on shot 18 . Main gas puff board caused a couple of delays today. The chopper is currently bypassed and DPCS voltages go directly to the piezo valve. The board will remain in this condition until next week when Willy will install a new board. Note that the software chopper in DPCS might be tried if "direct-drive" does not work well enough. Score: Tests 01,03 No power 06 (data system problem) Faults 18(EF1 com) plasmas 02,07,09,16,19,25,27 fizzles 04,05,08,10,11,12,13,14,15,17,20,21,22,23,24,26
