| SL plan for run 1100708
MP607: Optimizing the gate timing for TS DAQ SL: Yunxing Ma PO: Earl Marmar Shot plan: Identical target discharge will be repeated during the run. The integrating time of TS data acquisition system will be adjusted between shots. A span of 300ns will be scanned to cover the temporal response regime of the spectrometers to YAG lasers pulses. The machine conditioning phase is appropriate for this MP to be executed. target discharge: Ohmic,D2,Bt=6.5T,Ip=1.2MA,nl04=0.6x1e20 PO will start from Bt=5.4T, 1MA. If the TS spectrometer signals are decent and clean this level of magnetic field will be remained throughout the run. If the signals are not sufficient then higher field will be attempted. TS gate timing scan sequence: start at fgate == 110ns (L2323 == 150ns) which is approximately the optimum set value. Judge from the first shot if any adjustments to the discharge target are required. When the target discharge is determined, repeat it while scanning the TS timing between shots with the following sequence: Fgate == [160,140,120,100,80,60,40,20,0,150,130,110,90,70,50,30,10,170,180] (L2323 gate == Fgate +40) total 20 shots after the first round scan. Determine where finer scans are needed. 5~10 shots are possible. If time permits, try different densities and scan 110ns and 190ns, to verify if the loss of signals due to the non-optimized gate is uniform or signal level dependent. Total 30~35 shots are needed. Hirex Sr will piggy back this run for their calibration also. About 6 cell accesses may be requested for them to adjust the detectors. LaBombard will employ these identical discharges for his probe scan. If this MP is accomplished early the rest of the run day will be passed down to LH launcher conmissioning. |

| Run summary for today:
27 shots, 2 duds, 1 fizzle, and a leak that delayed the run about a hr, otherwise the run goes very well. Density nel04 kept about 7.0 1e19, variation between shots within 7%. Almost identical discharges every shots. TS gate timing was scanned between 10 to 160ns, covering the span that YAG daq would be set up. Sufficient information has been collected about the TS signals w.r.t. the gate width. 56 detectors have been calibrated (8 left disconnected from daq due to the limited working dig. channels, this is so far the best we can do). Dependence of laser energy measurements vs time gating is also obtained. It is proved that the anticipated results from MP607 that the optimum gate setup should be about 110ns, appropriate for 90% of the detectors. Particularities exist for some detectors, which need to be handled specially. In all the run is successful, and the data will benefit the improvement of TS accuracy. |

| generally the machine ran well today, with reliable startups.
We had significant early runaways on shots 3, 4, and 9. Adjusting early EF4 to be less negative may have helped. Prior to shot 14, a significant air leak appeared, and we lost about an hour to that. When we restarted, we had two no-TF duds; somehow the on/off node in the engineering tree for the TF power supply had been turned off. Shot 16 was a weak fizzle. Before 17 we ECDC'd in deuterium for 10 minutes.
