Day 1, MSE desirable but not required: 1.Confirm results from FY08 match results from FY10. 5.4 T, 800 kA, 110° phasing (n|| = 2.3, equivalent to 90° phasing from old launcher), PLH = 700-800 kW, nebar = 0.5-1.1x1020 m-3 L-mode USN. Reference equilibrium 1100714024. Repeat at 0.9-1.5x1020 m-3. (2 shots) 2.Complete unfinished density scans from FY08 campaign. Ramped density shot at 5.4 T, 1.1 MA, 110° phasing, PLH = 800 kW, nebar = 0.5-1.1x1020 m-3 L-mode LSN. Reference equilibrium 1080429017. Repeat at 7 T, 800 kA. (2 shots) 3.Repeat 1 at 75° and 125° phasing. (4 shots) 4.Repeat 1 at 800 kA, 8 T. (2 shots) 5.Repeat 1 at 800 kA, 4.5 T. (2 shots) 6.Repeat 1 at 600 kA, 5.4 T. Lots of issues with C-Mod today. Many disruptions at 1.1MA and 7.0T. LH system was also not running great with many trips, especially at high phasing (125 deg). Run was scrubbed at 16:00 due to capacitor bank issues. Also many data system failures, no power shots, etc. Only 23 shots total today. Good shots: 4. 90 deg phasing (n||=1.9), P_LH=575 kW, nebar=8e19 and steady, 700 kA, 5.4 T. Vloop from 1 V to 0.6 V. 5. 90 deg phasing, P_LH=600 kW, nebar=0.8-1.2e20, 700 kA, 5.4 T. ECE and HXR show density limit around 1e20. 6. 110 deg phasing (n||=2.3), P_LH=600 kW, nebar=0.87-1.15e20, 700 kA, 5.4 T. ECE and HXR show density limit around 1e20. 15. 110 deg phasing, P_LH=550 kW, nebar=0.87-1.15e20, 700 kA, 5.4 T. ECE and HXR show density limit around 1e20. 16. 75 deg phasing (n||=1.5) , P_LH=625 kW, nebar = 0.7-1.15e20, 700 kA, 5.4 T. ECE shows density limit around 8.25e19. 18. 125 deg phasing (n||=2.7), P_LH=500 kW, nebar=0.7-1.1e20, 700 kA, 5.4 T. Early and late trips but perhaps enough data to see trend of X-rays and ECE during density scan at high n||. Density scans on shots 4, 5, 6, were able to replicate scans from 2008. New data trends the same direction as previous runs but a detailed comparison has not been finished yet. Scanning probe data from these shots will be very helpful with modeling of the SOL. Comparison of shots 15, 16, 17 will show changes in density limit at wide range of n||.

This was not a very satisfying run. There were several delays beginning with one after the first shot due to a problem with the gka1 highway. The "workhorse shot" was at ~800 kA, 5.4 T and had a density ramp from 4e19 to 8e19 m-2. This shot ran reliably after the data highway problem as fixed, but attempts to run 1.1 MA at 5.4 T resulted in disruptions as did attempts to run 800 kA at 6.5 T. Thus the part of the SL run plan that needed the higher field or current could not be carried out. During the middle of the run, there were several no power shots caused by hangups in the computer system. Finally, just after a double null shot was loaded, EF1 U failed to commutate, a problem which was traced to a shorted capacitor. As there was only 1.25 hours left in the run and the the repair would take ~ 2 hours, the run was terminated. Scorecard: 19 Attempts at plasma, 12 full length, 6 disruptions (at higher field or current) and 1 fizzle (due to failed commutation).

Estimated time to replace: 2 hours. Since it is 3:45, it was decoded to terminate the run. For the record, shot 1100729021, which fizzled due to failed EF1 commutation, was set up as a double null shot and would be a possible starting point for a DN equilibrium.
